Finding a good band to latch on to today is harder than finding a cheap, yet comfortable apartment in New York City.
Luckily, Review Fix makes it easy for you and shares ten sure fire new picks for space on your iPod.
Electric Sister: These guys are so confident in their abilities that they openly say they want to revive rock and roll. They just might. If Kiss was in its prime today and Paul Stanley was able to scream a bit louder and Ace Frehley was able to shred a bit more, you’d have this band.

Snatch Magnet: Combining booming vocals, gritty guitar work, poignant bass and drumming that will take you back to the greats of the ’80s, Snatch Magnet’s new EP “Screw, Nut and Bolt†is something that classic rock fans will eat up. Mediocre lyrics almost ruin the voice of the talented Josh Weekley, but overall, the effort and polish is there. This band is damn good.

The Villains: With names the likes of producers Stan Lynch (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Don Henley) and Billy Chapin (Backstreet Boys, Edwin McCain), all playing a part their new album album, “Velocity†the album is a modern rock funfest. Reminiscent of old favorites the likes of The Eagles, and Fleetwood Mac, The Villains utilize different singers and styles for a cohesive, but aurally interesting mix.

Calhoun: The words and vocals of Tim Locke will wow you. Emotional at some points, catchy at others, Calhoun isn’t the hardest band on this list by a long shot, but they might be the deepest.

Can’t Hang: Amalgamating elements of punk, thrash, ska, rock and reggae, Can’t Hang feels like the best parts of bands like Sum 41, Sublime and Green Day and as a result, they find a style all their own. On this 12-track effort, there is not a throw-away track, as each song has its own flavor, making it not only a great album, but one you’ll want to listen to over and over. This band, consisting of Luke Mysko [vocals], Steve Lynch, [guitars] Rob Eisenhut [bass] and Alex Crowley [drums] have been together for a decade, but make no mistake about it, if you haven’t heard of them yet, this album is a great introduction to their talent and ability.

Shirock: They sound like U2 at first, but with Pap Shirock’s backup vocals, they are a refreshing and intriguing take on modern rock.

Ion Vein: While they’ve been around in various forms since the mid ‘90s, the newest lineup of Ion Vein is hardcore. One listen to their new self-titled EP will melt your face off.

Blackwater James: Their EP “Blackwater James: Vol 1†is a catchy yet tough rock experience. Lead singer Christopher Foust channels the Offspring at some times and Blue Oyster Cult and The Black Crows at some others. With great guitar work, bass and drumming as well, they will definitely appease any modern rock fans who feel top 40 radio doesn’t represent them anymore.

The Cab: If you thought the days of bands the likes of 9 Days, Better Than Ezra, or even the Backstreet Boys powering the radio waves were dead, think again. The Cab is simply put, catchy pop rock that doesn’t stink. Their song, “Angel with a Shotgun†will get the burliest guy on the dance floor, while “Bad†is a mushy yet enjoyable ballad. Their new album “Symphony Soldier†is definitely worth a listen if you miss the late ‘90s era of pop/rock.

Underride: These guys are from Seattle, but they are far from Nirvana clones. Rough around the edges progressive metal heads with tinges of Punk, they are powered by great drum work, solid guitars and the impressive vocal stylings of Rev. Yes, their lead singer’s name is Rev. If that wasn’t enough to get you hooked on them, they cover Lady Gaga’s hit single, “Paparazzi†on their new album and absolutely own it.
