Thoughts on ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Trailer

Review Fix contributors share their thoughts on the new “The Dark Knight Rises” Trailer.

For those of us who weren’t able to catch the prologue to Christopher Nolan’s final installment of his Batman trilogy “The Dark Knight Rises” before Tom Cruise’s latest movie, “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol,” Warner Brothers late Monday released the second official trailer, an early holiday gift to fans of Hollywood.

The trailer sets up a charged, dark, action thriller, which looks to possibly be better than it’s predecessor, “The Dark Knight,” which grossed a little over one billion dollars at the box office four years ago.

In this final chapter to the trilogy, Christian Bale returns to play Nolan’s Bruce Wayne and suits up as Batman. The trailer also gives tasty licks at Anne Hathaway’s debut as Selina Kyle, also known as the Catwoman.

In the trailer Kyle whispers into Wayne’s ears like that of Shakespeare’s Soothsayer to Caesar. “You think this is going to last. There’s a storm coming, Mr. Wayne. You and your friends better batten down the hatches because when it hits, you’re all going to wonder how you ever thought how you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.”

But most impressive is the debut of Tom Hardy as Bane. He looks brutal, and with the first bits of his speech, we can tell this villain will not just challenge Batman with the brute force he has yet to encounter in previous villains, but also a clinical precision to the terror that only Nolan and his writing partner and brother Jonathan Nolan could conjure up.

There are two more cool glimpses in this trailer that will have your imagination running wild.

The first is that of Marion Cotillard as the beautiful Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprise board member who looks to help Wayne’s philanthropic ventures. Rumors are already spreading that she is possibly either a daughter of a previous villain or the daughter of Ra’s al Ghul, who taught Wayne ninjutsu in the first of the trilogy, “Batman Begins.”

The second is that of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who is officially credited on IMDB as John Blake, a beat cop under the command of Commissioner Gordon, played by the always brilliant Gary Oldman. But to fan boys, Levitt looks more like he’s ready to take on the role as Dick Grayson, who notoriously takes the role of Robin, Batman’s trusted sidekick.

The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled to be released July, 20, 2012. That gives you 212 days to prepare for the end of a masterful three part series to a once dead franchise.

“The Dark Knight Rises” looks like it has plenty of action, with massive explosions, several fight scenes and an interesting villain in Bain. From the looks of it, this will be Batman’s biggest challenge yet.

This film looks like it will go back to it’s roots from the first film in “Batman Begins”, as we see Bruce Wayne, beard and all, go to the mountains where he trained with Raza Ghoul. There is also an intense football scene as a football player is running to the end-zone for a touchdown while the entire field behind him is crumbling due to an explosion, and is shocked when he turns around and sees the after effect.

There is also what seems to be a new Batman plane that looks very futuristic. It’s something that hasn’t been seen in previous films.

Overall, the trailer of “The Dark Knight Rises” looks to be an explosive film and epic conclusion to a great superhero story told by Nolan. The story in this film seems to be interesting because it takes eight years after the previous film, “The Dark Knight.”

Fans will definitely be waiting intently for this summer blockbuster release, and for the looks of it, the wait will be well worth it.
