iTunes Single of The Week Review: ‘I Belong In Your Arms’ from Chairlift

“I Belong In Your Arms” from Chairlift, the Brooklyn based electro-pop duo, is ’80s pop reincarnation. Singer Caroline Polachek and instrumentalist Patrick Wimberly take a vintage Hall and Oates beat then make it an artful, cool, economic, pop tune love song that will evoke one to roll the mental montages of Molly Ringwald rom-com-characters dancing on the bed, before prom night, excited to kiss that sexy stud star quarterback.

The synth-pop crew builds the song with a minimal looped sample that sounds like a single vibrating note with signature beats from the always immortal 808 drum machine, that is occasionally visited by a subtle guitar riff. Polachek’s filmy agile voice stars in this single as she will get bring out your legwarmers and get you to do the Love Shack on the dance floor.

Chairlift first broke on to the mainstream in 2008 when Apple featured “Bruises,” in their iPod Nano commercials. Four years later, “I Belong In Your Arms” comes from the outfit’s latest album “Something,” which continues to bring the band well deserved praise for their unique melodic reinvention as they bring back the sweeter happier tunes from a vintage past to the hipster present.

  1. Freaked out when I saw Chairlift’s track was the single of the week. “Something” deserves all the buzz it can get – it’s a really strong album. Another great track is “Sidewalk Safari,” stumbled on this link of them doing it live and it’s awesome. http://youtu.be/77ob12zZLes
