Six in Line’s ‘U Shud Hev Invtd Me’ Review: An Invitation to Thrash

Crossover thrashers from Sweden, Six In Line have returned with another EP of madness with their newest release, “U Shud Hev Invtd Me.” Aside from the worst spelled title in history, it is downright entertaining.

For starters, “U Shud Hev Invtd Me” has much better production quality then their previous effort, “God Fukn Blez.” Everything is clear and mixed at great levels. You can really tell the band worked hard on finding the right sound and studio to record in. Money seemed to not be of any concern this time around.

The album begins with the title track, a 12-minute onslaught (now spelled correctly for some reason). It features some great guitar work and the raging vocals of Kaptain Nuke. All the band members have perfected their techniques this time around. The lyrics are violent and fun, while the music keeps the catchy vibe Six In Line introduced with their previous release.

The next song is about Pablo Escobar entitled, “Plata O Plomo” (Silver or Lead for those of you who don’t habla espanol). This one is full of surprises from the shrieking lyrics to the thumping bass, which pops out nicely. The drums stand out here. They aren’t very technical, but they keep time  well and the simplicity helps move the song at a good pace. This tune carries a great groove. Don’t be surprised if you catch yourself dancing awkwardly while listening.

The final track is by far the silliest. According to the lyrics on Six In Line’s Bandcamp page, “We Intend to Hang You” is “a song about a re-imagining of Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back with Arnold Schwarzenegger.”

Only the Swedes.

The song itself is also the best song on the EP, putting a stamp on the overall creativity of the band. It starts off with a Slayer-esque intro that takes off with a war cry from Kaptain Nuke. This roller coaster of a song transitions from speed to groove in the coolest ways imaginable. A great guitar song if anything else. The riffs are very catchy and exciting. Kaptain Nuke channels his inner Arnold once again and combines it with some Zetro-era Exodus vocals to keep things fresh.

Six In Line have done it again. These kids really know what thrash is all about by having a good time and not taking themselves too seriously. A breath of fresh air in this day where every thrash band seems to be as serious and evil as possible. The band has outdone themselves with this release of superb musicianship, great hooks and some of the funniest lyrics you’ve ever heard. For the sake of humanity, everyone should invite them to their next party – or else.
