“CALLED OUT IN THE DARK” SINGLE TOP 5 AT AAA RADIO IN U.S.

(January 5, 2011 – New York, NY)  Multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated UK band Snow Patrol will ring in 2012 with a pair of high-profile television breaks in advance of the January 10th release of their new [sixth] studio album FALLEN EMPIRES – with a feature slot for their song “New York” in the ending montage episode of the last episode of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. The band will also perform Monday, January 9th on CBS’s Late Show with David Letterman, followed that same night with a full-length concert on the ground-breaking Live on Letterman webcast concert series, streaming live athttp://liveonletterman.radio.com.  Later that week Snow Patrol will perform on The Ellen DeGeneres Show January 11th.

Anticipation is building for FALLEN EMPIRES, the band’s first new studio album in more than three years.  The first advance single, “Called Out in the Dark” (with a guitar part from guest Troy Van Leeuwen of Queens Of The Stone Age), is Top 5 at Triple-A (AAA) radio format in the U.S.  Snow Patrol’s ninth AAA hit.  Check out the video for “Called Out in the Dark” at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwTXwJg6_VE.

With a history of 11 million album sales and hit singles around the world, the Glasgow-based, Irish-Scottish Snow Patrol – singer Gary Lightbody, guitarist Nathan Connolly, bassist Paul Wilson, drummer Jonny Quinn, and keyboardist Tom Simpson – settled into California for the writing and recording of FALLEN EMPIRES.

The results are “simply their best record to date,” according to inside reports, an album that takes its cues from LCD Soundsystem’s The Sound Of Silver, U2’s Achtung Baby, and Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs.  Highlights of FALLEN EMPIRES include “New York” (which feels like a festival moment-in-waiting), and “The Garden Rules,” a soundtrack to autumnal romance, written about Gary’s childhood.  “I’ll Never Let Go” (featuring the gospel choir) boldly takes the band into electro-dance club mode.

“We wanted to make a massively ambitious record,” says Gary, “a record unlike any other we’ve made before… We started writing songs that were more playful, even rawer than before – we were brave enough to do what we wanted as a band, rather than what convention dictated to us.  It was tough at times, we were out of our comfort zone for most of it, but I think it’s given us a great album.”

After two UK-only album releases on the indie Jeepster label – Songs For Polarbears in 1998, and When It’s All Over We Still Have To Clear Up in 2001, Snow Patrol finally broke through to global audiences over the course of their next three albums, released on the Fiction/Interscope/A&M label in the U.S.  2003’s Final Straw spun off the massive #5 UK single “Run,” which had the distinction of being covered by Leona Lewis and other UK artists.  Final Straw was certified RIAA gold in the U.S.; 5-times platinum in the UK (where it hit #3); and 6-times platinum in Ireland (where it hit #1).

Snow Patrol’s next album, Eyes Open (2006) did even better, powered by a career-defining worldwide Top 10 single and video, “Chasing Cars,” nominated for a Grammy Award as Best Rock Song.  The album was certified RIAA platinum in the U.S. (where it hit the Top 30), and 7-times platinum in both the UK and Ireland (hitting #1 in both territories).  Snow Patrol kept up their multi-platinum pace with 2008’s A Hundred Million Suns, another Top 10 album worldwide, containing the hit single and video, “Take Back the City.”

FALLEN EMPIRES establishes Snow Patrol as a band big on experimental ideas as well as stadium sized anthems.  “I’ve always wanted to make an album that could rank with the ones that inspire me,” Gary says, “and hopefully this one will.  I’m really proud of this album.  Listening to it thrills me and that is a beautiful thing indeed.”
