Wadjet Eye Games, an independent publisher of retro-styled games, and UK-based indie developer Chris Burton invite players to jump into the ring with Da New Guys: Day of the Jackass, a hilarious adventure set in the peculiar world of professional wrestling. On February 29, Da New Guys: Day of the Jackass will release as a PC download from http://www.danewguys.com. Starting today, the game can be preordered in downloadable and Limited Edition CD formats. A nostalgic throwback to comedy games like The Secret of Monkey Island with the feel and pacing of a Saturday morning cartoon, Da New Guys: Day of the Jackass is a point-and-click adventure with humorous dialogue, clever puzzles, and a quirky art style. Under somewhat sketchy circumstances, Brain — a member of Da New Guys wrestling trio and the worst brawler in Wrestle Zone history — has won the title belt. (Not even his teammates Simon and Defender can believe it!) When an angry mob shows up to protest, Brain and the precious belt end up kidnapped. Now it’s up to wrestling’s most eclectic team to get their buddy back and defend his unlikely title — not to mention Da New Guys’ Wrestle Zone reputation.
Da New Guys: Day of the Jackass can be preordered at http://www.danewguys.com/preorder for $9.99 (download version) or $19.99 (Limited Edition CD version). The Limited Edition CD, which will only be sold through the February 29 launch, includes a Da New Guys cartoon short, exclusive collectable trading cards, and free shipping within North America. (International shipping is just $0.99.) All preorder customers will receive instant download access to the game and MP3 soundtrack upon the February 29 release. After the game launches, Wadjet Eye Games will only offer Da New Guys: Day of the Jackass in downloadable format.
“Da New Guys: Day of the Jackass is a rare game that manages to be both charming and bust-a-gut hilarious,” says Dave Gilbert, Wadjet Eye Games’ CEO. “I’ve been a fan of Chris Burton’s work since he first introduced Da New Guys in an amateur freeware game years ago, so I’m very excited to be kicking off Wadjet Eye’s 2012 lineup with their commercial debut.”
