iTunes Single of the Week Review: Graffiti6’s ‘Free’

Graffiti6? Guess the original artist name threshold has finally reached critical capacity as that old AOL AIM screen-name dilemma we’ve all experienced—“ screen-name already taken”—has now been introduced to this new British duo. Regardless, “Free,” the debut pop single from singer, songwriter, Jamie Scott and songwriter, producer TommyD, yield a sound that the previous five Graffiti bands wish they could have made.

“Free,” the single from Graffiti6’s debut album “Colours,” delivers a lovely emotional ballad of love that’s tinged with genuine soul. Soft strums with steady bass lines keeps this track’s groove on a roll as the sexy stretched voice from Scott will have aficionados excitedly curling their toes, with thoughts to liberate this handsome “Step Up” heart-throb’s chiseled abs free from the clutches of his shirt.

Scott’s voice will cause many to recall the lustful sounds of Bruno Mars, but the difference maker here is the compositional styles of TommyD, who has previously produced Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Sexy,” and has worked with the likes of Kanye West, Jay-Z, KT Tunstall, Kylie Minouge and many others. The experienced beat creations he brings to the duo puts them above the pack as critics and fans have already jumped on the bandwagon.

The single is soaring through the AAA radio airplay charts, USA Today recently dubbed the single as its Pick Of The Week, while the music video for the single has been heavily rotated through MTVU and VH1 video countdown. Meanwhile, back home, the London newspaper The Independent has already awarded the album a five star review. With all the praise Graffiti6 has received and continues to receive, it’s hard to forecast them to lose any of their momentum.

“Free” is now available for free at the iTunes Music Store. Then, when you’re ears crave more from these Brits check out their debut album “Colours” available everywhere albums are sold.
