Eastbound and Down Coverage: Stevie and Marie

Kenny Powers comes back with a bang in the latest chapter of the “Eastbound and Down” saga. This episode will have you laughing so hard, you’re insides will hurt. In this chapter we see Kenny having to deal with many obstacles in his life that has him under a lot of pressure.

The funny part of seeing Kenny Powers under so much stress is his how he takes out on Stevie Janowsky and his wife Maria whom have both come to live with him in Myrtle Beach.

It’s not just Kenny’s outbursts that will have you constantly in laughter throughout; it is the way Kenny acts towards his son, Toby, as being an irresponsible and unfit parent. At first, we see Kenny riding some waves while his son is buried in a hole with a towel covered over it. Kenny’s excuse is that no one would kidnap Toby.

As crazy as that sounds, it is the way Powers delivers his thoughts is what will have you in pain due to the constant laughter. A particular scene that shows Powers irresponsibility as a dad is having porno on, while Toby sits on the couch playing with a bottle of pills, not to mention Powers honesty that he hates his son. You can call his attitude disturbing but the comedic idea is just simply hilarious.

Aside from Kenny bursting out in anger towards Stevie and not caring about his son, this episode’s focus shifts towards a new character in the series, Ivan Dochenko-a talented Russian prospect who throws 102 MPH, and becomes Kenny’s student for a short while, until he and Kenny exchange a war of words and a difference of opinion.

One particular scene involved Kenny ordering Ivan to do ridiculous tasks that involved climbing up a roof, going up a ramp shirtless and killing a rat in a hole. When Dochenko refuses, a hilarious war of words breaks out, leaving Kenny with no choice but to ditch him while riding away along with his pitchfork. This drew plenty of laughs.

This episode was by far the funniest this series has to offer thus far. Powers goes all out with his antics, from going on a tirade about how Janowsky decorated his son Toby’s room, which includes one of the funniest lines throughout this series that involves Cabbage patch kids, to him walking in on an ongoing lecture in a class room that his girlfriend was in. This was vintage Kenny Powers.

Unfortunately for Powers, all good things must come to an end. Kenny finds out with one pitch. The rest of the season might be an sign that Powers may have an enemy in Dochenko-who is just like Kenny, arrogant, cocky and can back it up on the mound. Dochenko insults Kenny during this episode, by saying he is a has been. Throughout the rest of this season, we will find out if that is the case.

This episode brought the laughs and was simply the best, comedy-wise. Although Powers was feeling the heat during this chapter, there is plenty more to come with Dochenko as we move forward.
