Eastbound and Down Coverage: Welcome Back Stevie

Kenny Powers get a taste of his own medicine, now stuck having to take care of his son Toby, after his ex leaves him high and dry in Myrtle Beach. He’s in a bit of a panic; he knows his life is now filled with responsibility- something he is not used to.

At first we see Kenny talking to his son Toby while he grows impatient waiting for April to return. As he realizes that she won’t be back anytime soon, he carries Toby around in his book bag while he seeks answers from April’s colleagues regarding her whereabouts. Although this episode did draw a few laughs it wasn’t the best by any stretch. We do however see the return of Ashley Schaeffer, AKA Will Ferrell [“Old School”]. Schaeffer’s character was a bit obnoxious in this episode; but in one scene,  he flicks his middle finger towards Kenny’s privates. Well-played.

The funny part about Schaeffer’s return is not his character in general, but that he went from selling BMW’s to KIAs and has Steve Janowsky working for him.

As Kenny is on the search for Janowsky he runs into Maria. Janowsy’s plump, but loving Mexican wife, who is dressed up in a cap sported to the side, baggy pants and, a Fubu Shirt. Kenny’s wise cracks about how she looks are one of the funniest parts during that part of the episode.

While the episode heads towards its climax, we see Janwosky dressed up as a Geisha girl named Cherry Blossom during one of Schaeffer’s KIA VIP meetings held at his home. You’ll laugh uncontrollably because of how ridiculous he looks. The episode ends with Janowsky and Powers running for their lives as they attempt to escape Schaeffer shooting cannon balls at them. Although the idea was intended to be funny, it fell way short.

The episode did end on a high note as you see Powers and Stevie laughing at each other, just like old friends. This scene was heartwarming as you witness two friends reunited. It will be interesting to see when Janowsky meets Kenny’s new bestie Shane in Myrtle Beach, and how and when April will show up again to explain herself. Did she take off to teach Kenny a lesson, or does she really need time for herself in order to clear her head?

I grew up in Bensonhurst Brooklyn, the same neighborhood many of the best mafia films of our day were based on, idolizing guys like Robert Deniro, Martin Scorsese and Al Pacino. I'm also a big sports fan and follow the New York Yankees immensely.
