‘Ice Age’ Cools ‘Spider-Man’ Run

Of all the movies to knock The Amazing Spider-Man off the top of the box office draw, the kiddie movie Ice Age: Continental Drift has done it.

Ice Age broke the bank with an estimated $46 million Friday to Monday net at the U.S. Box Office. Ironically, the original Ice Age brought in $46 million its first weekend, too. John Leguizamo, Ray Romano and Queen Latifah voice the prehistoric characters in the ice age setting dealing with how to survive during the continental drift.

The Amazing Spider-Man slipped 43.6 percent in weekend two, raking in $35 million domestically. Led by Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, the superhero movie has made $201 million domestically and $521 million worldwide in just 13 days. Funny enough, it took in the same this past weekend as it did on its opening day, which was a record for a Tuesday opening.

Seth MacFarlane’s teddy bear comedy Ted, starring Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis and MacFarlane voicing the title role of Ted, held solid at third with a $22.1 million domestic gross. The film’s total take after three weeks is $159 million domestically and $190.2 million worldwide.

The Pixar animated film Brave, about a kickass girl who wants a different life for herself than the one she’s supposed to lead, came in third with $10.7 million. Its domestic total is now $195.6 million, and is worldwide total is $242.3, far surpassing its $185 million budget.

Channing Tatum’s stripper-palooza Magic Mike has held strong and rounding out the top five, bringing in $9 million, for a grand domestic total of $91.9 million after three weeks. It only cost $7 million to make. A sequel is in the works, according to Business Insider.
