‘Lost’ Star Dominic Monaghan Speaks Out against ‘Swamp People’

Dominic Monaghan is calling for the end of the History Channel Show Swamp People, calling it “shock TV.”

“If my hero Steve Irwin was around, those shows about killing alligators wouldn’t be on TV. I’m gonna stop them,” he posted on Twitter yesterday, later adding, “If alligator populations need to be controlled, I understand. But the act should not be glorified on TV. Disgusting.”

According to TMZ, Monaghan describes the show as “death entertainment” that “continues to demonize reptiles as monsters and animals that are okay to torture and kill.”

His claims aren’t completely out of the blue—Monaghan is currently working on a new BBC America documentary series titled Wild Things with Dominic Monaghan, which shows the Lost and Lord of the Rings actor traveling the world to find “the biggest, scariest and weirdest insects on the planet,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

As he is also in the reality TV game, Monaghan made sure to let it be known that his anger is all pointed towards the History Channel.

“I blame the network, not the people,” he said.

Wild Things is set to debut on BBC America in early 2013. The Swamp People season finale airs tonight at 8 p.m. on the History Channel.
