Top 10 Best Thrash Singers Today

Thrash metal has always been around – whether you knew about it or not. One thing seems to always be the dividing line for a lot of the band’s sound – their singers. Thrash metal has so many vocal styles its unfair to say who’s better. Unfortunately, some really do outshine the others so here’s Reviewfix.com’s top 10 Best Thrash Singers today.

10: Philly Byrne (Gama Bomb): The Irish thrashers don’t just have luck on their side, they’ve got a great sound and a singer to fed – ex it to your face. Philly Byrne’s voice is a speedy uphill climb of wonder. Think John Connelly of Nuclear Assault meets Sean Killian of Vio-Lence. On-stage is another story. His stage banter is like a young, heroin-ed up Axl Rose. Intense, highly unpredictable and awesome.

9: Soren Nico Adamsen (Artillery): A very underrated singer from a very underrated band. Adamsen is thrash metal’s Bruce Dickinson. He has so much range and talent its a shame the Danish underdogs didn’t get the success they deserve.

8: Toshio Komori (Fastkill): There is not many frontmen that can scream in such a high register, let alone pull it off so well. Toshio has a rapid-fire war cry that adds a lot of thrill to Fastkill’s already unique sound. This up and coming buzz-saw from Japan ain’t your daddy’s thrash metal.

7:Katon W. De Pena (Hirax): Arguably the most underrated singer of all music today. Katon kills it every night and put 150% into everything he does for this band and it shows. The black Rob Halford. They aren’t so big in the good ol’ US of A, but South America understands how great Hirax is, sometimes giving Hirax a headlining slot on tours they would normally open for elsewhere. Katon is also a class act off stage.

6: David Disanto (Vektor): There’s something about Dave’s and thrash metal. Both an Axeman and Frontman for Space Cases Vektor, Disanto plays like Voivod’s late Denis “Piggy” Diamour but sings like the late Chuck Schuldiner of “Death.” Talk about a winning combination.

5: David Sanchez (Havok): One of the newer bands in the game, Havok’s lead guitarist and vocalist David Sanchez has something special. Not only is his playing ferocious, but his vocal chops are formidable as well. Nothing beats his signature scream in “D.O.A.”

4: Mark Osegueda (Death Angel): One of the most dynamic and energetic singers for almost three decades. Mark Osegueda has lead Death Angel through thick and thin and has prevailed with his sonic wails. Death Angel remains as one of the tightest bands to this day and has a stage presence too sick for words.

3: Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth (Overkill): The “working man” of thrash metal. Blitz is one of the most destructive forces to ever get in front of a microphone. His pterodactyl shrieks and haunting mid range delivery don’t get enough justice on albums. The only way to truly experience the awesome power of Overkill is to see them live.

2: Mille Petrozza (Kreator): This wouldn’t be a top 10 thrash list without someone from a German band. Mille Petrozza’s guitar work and vocal talents have been polished so well over time, Kreator has become a different animal since its inception. Their new album “Phantom Antichrist” features some of their most technical work to date and Petrozza’s rage flows throughout the album. There is no doubt Petrozza’s voice will be heard during the apocalypse.

1: Chuck Billy (Testament): Not much can’t be said about the big Native American frontman of Testament. He’s battled with cancer and the metal decline of the 90s and not only survived both, Billy has come back stronger than ever. Testament has not put out a bad record yet and Billy’s all powerful voice is a large reason why. The band’s latest effort “Dark Roots of Earth” is a clear sign that Chuck Billy will always be a powerhouse.
