South Park Episode Commentary: Insecurity

“Now you got your Amazon. The milk man is back.”

This episode is classic.

The opening segment will make you spit your drink out. It’s one of those things you’ll only see on South Park. For that reason alone, this week’s episode gets ‘er done.

And by “’er,” we mean your wife, by none other than the UPS guy.

Every couple adds a little spice in the bedroom as they get older. The Broslowfski’s are no different. Older episodes have shown us that the Marsh’s prefer to watch pornography together. Sheila and Gerald on the other hand enjoy dress up. But the couple’s little game turns into something much different when Ike and Kyle believe their mother has cheated on their father with the UPS man.

Leave it to South Park to make an innocent game between a husband and wife and turn it into calamity.

Add in another appearance from Fred Gwynn’s character from “Pet Cemetary” and more antics from Randy Marsh (it seems every week Randy finds a way into our hearts) and it’s obvious Trey Parker and Matt Stone have no intent on a “South Park” shark jump any time soon.

16 seasons in and still, there’s no-filler.

This episode also manages to make social commentary on America’s insistence to buy things on Amazon for no reason. Somehow, Batman’s Bane, or at least his mask and Tom Hardy’s voice, finds their way into the witty plot as well. It makes no sense, but ends up completely logical and structurally sound. Talk about controlled chaos.

These seemingly unrelated events meld together to give the show a myriad of weapons to induce laughter. However, the quick cuts that mirror the ADT home security commercials of the early ‘90s steal the show.

They also give Cartman a way to steal your attention.

As always, South Park’s portly, prepubescent potty mouth is at his best. With a hearty helping of one-liners, Cartman once again proves he’s the main attraction. Randy’s lunacy continues the trend of his more prominent role on the show as well.

This episode proves once again that South Park is the best-animated sitcom on TV. And that doesn’t appear ready to change anytime soon.
