The adolescent phase. It’s when everything happens. You notice “new parts†of your body, get caught staring at the opposite sex, and oh yeah, you’re forced to battle monstrous aliens in a giant robot to save humanity from destruction. Dark Horse brings together popular manga artists Mine Yoshizaki (Sgt. Frog) and Rikdo Koshi (Excel Saga) for a collection of hilarious one shot stories that define these very feelings. “Neon Genesis Evangelion: Comic Tribute†features Shinji, Rei, and Asuka in another spin-off that will give you fits of uncontrollable giggles. The crude humor offers up a nice plate of laughs to escape from the doldrums of every day life.
This collection steps outside of the serious nature of “Evangelion†into a comical collaboration of several short stories.
Many of the chapters have a large amount of fan service in them, sharing the beauties of “Evangelion†in a less than moral fashion. It’s a great read for those who have an unhealthy obsession with boobs and panties. Fear not though, for resting between all the cleavage are a few romantic stories to warm the cockles of your heart.
The stories range from between two simple panels up to around eight pages with no continuity at all. It’s easy to pick up get a quick laugh in then move on. Even with that, you’ll find yourself reading through from cover to cover spilling out laughter over the struggles of every character.
The story writers do a great job of maintaining each character’s personality while offering up plates of shenanigans for the readers to enjoy. The hilarity stretches from a “behind the scenes†story, to a “10 years after†bit, even on to parts where you will have no idea what is going on but the conversations are so mad that you can’t help but laugh.
Don’t expect there to be any real story to follow, but the masters of manga madness make a great team to put out a bundle of laughs with “Neon Genesis Evangelion: Comic Tribute.â€
