Single Review: Yulianna: December Sky

You could stop the rain if you wanted to, but you won’t, with up-and-coming pop star Yulianna’s new single, “December Sky,” off her upcoming album, “Californ-i-a.”

Fueled by a consistent beat and a catchy hook, Yulianna sounds a lot like pop legend Cher. The song’s lyrics make the track one of self-discovery, love and loss, but it has dance club anthem written all over it. It already has an engaging beat and works in its current state, but could be sped up or slowed down further. It has that many remix possibilities.

It could even work as an acoustic ballad or as a synth and beat heavy first-pumper. A lot of that has to do with Yulianna’s multifaceted voice. Whether she’s speaking, crooning or playing with her range, she’s super easy on the ears. Her voice is deeper than many female pop artists today, but it’s still more than feminine and sexy. There’s a straight-ahead, simplistic passion behind her voice as well that will hook anyone who likes lady-powered pop.

While she’s not quite up to the league of Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera just yet, her unique voice and penchant for comfortable hooks make her someone to watch in 2013.
