Breaking Bad Episode Commentary: Confessions

If you thought the time bomb that is Walter White’s life is just about to explode, you guessed right.

In this latest episode, “Confessions,” Hank and Marie join Walt and Skylar for a meeting in a Spanish restaurant. Walter video records his confession with a twist and Jessie makes a major discovery that involves both Walt and Saul. It is safe to say that the situation involving Walt has escalated to a whole new level. This there is no turning back.

The episode starts off with Todd leaving Walt a voicemail regarding his latest situation, while keeping him updated with the business. Todd then meets his uncle and other associate while they discuss if he is ready to cook. Throughout this episode the tension increases- there are situations that begin to unravel. One of which involves Walt and Hank. Although Hank might think he has the upper hand by knowing his brother-in-law is a drug king pin, it is Walt that has his DEA brother-in law on the ropes.

On the DVD that has Walter White’s confession, it actually shows the kind of master manipulator and monster that Heisenberg really is. Not to mention an evil genius. While Hank and Marie watch the DVD, you see Walt tell mostly lies about Hank, but at the same time these lies fit in well, because they involve Marie accepting money from Walt and Skylar for Hank’s medical bills. In reality, Walt out did himself by flipping his story around and making Hank look like the actual bad guy so to speak.

Later, Walter meets Jessie and Saul in the middle of the desert. Walt tells Jessie to leave everything behind and skip town. Jessie puts two and two together and realizes Walt’s manipulating games come in to play again. Jessie breaks down and tells Walt that the reason why he wants him to leave is so he does have an excuse to kill him because he knows he killed Mike. Walt walks to Jessie slowly and gives him a hug, sort of like a father hugging his son in distress.

Back at Saul’s firm, he convinces Jessie to take Walt’s advice and start a new life. While Jessie was hesitant at first he agrees and decides to start his new life in Alaska out of all places. Saul calls his guy from who we heard of in the previous seasons and uses a code to make it look he is having a problem with his vacuum cleaner. Saul shakes Jessie’s hand and wishes him luck, and has Huell drive him to the pick-up spot, which is a four way intersection. While Jessie anxiously waits to be picked up he takes out his pack of cigarettes and discovers that Walt did indeed poison Brock, and Saul helped in the process. Jessie runs back to Saul’s enraged and knocks Saul senseless. Saul calls Walt to tell him what happened.

We finally see Jessie pull up to Walt’s house with a jug of gasoline pouring it inside the home.

Another cliff hanger.

This time business has picked up and it looks like it will guns blazing from here on out.

I grew up in Bensonhurst Brooklyn, the same neighborhood many of the best mafia films of our day were based on, idolizing guys like Robert Deniro, Martin Scorsese and Al Pacino. I'm also a big sports fan and follow the New York Yankees immensely.
