Red Ten #0 Review: A Mystery Worth Solving

One of the biggest unspoken rules of comic books is that teams of super heroes do not die. Red Ten, written by Tyler James, was created for the sole purpose of destroying this rule.

In the FREE COMIC BOOK DAY release of Red Ten #0, James sets up a retelling of Agatha Christie’s “And Then There Were None.” He adds his own twist to the story by using a team of super heroes known as The Alliance, who is unmistakably a copy of the Justice League, to recreate Christie’s classic novel.

In Red Ten, “the world’s greatest detective” (sound familiar?) known only as Red, is murdered violently by her arch-nemesis, Oxymoron. In an attempt to avenge her death, Red’s former sidekick and The Alliance set out to bring justice to the psychotic super villain. Their plans go awry though, and a bloody murder mystery ensues.

Red Ten #0 is the prequel to the massacre though, and just takes time to introduce you to the squad of super heroes.

The concept itself is wonderful, and if told right then James will undoubtedly have created a modern murder mystery masterpiece. The Justice League has often faced adversity, and heroes have died before, but to have the entire team be massacred is unheard of.

While readers are aware of Oxymoron, and he even has his own spinoff comic already, the question remains as to who will the mastermind behind the death of the team be. Christie’s novel is a mystery after all, meaning that the reader is left guessing the majority of the time. This being said, it is doubtful that James would simply make the villain on the cover of the comic itself the solution to the mystery.

Take the time to read through Red Ten #0, identify the doppelgangers of your favorite heroes, and make your list of how you think they will be annihilated. This ride is sure to be an intense and enthralling one.
