Breaking Bad Coverage: Fallen Heroes, Surfacing Villians

Episode Commentary: Ozymandias

“Walter, you’re the smartest person here and you can’t tell he made up his mind 10 minutes ago?”-Hank

The king of kings has fallen. All lose ends have been tied. There are only a few more things that Walter White has left to do. The only question is will he survive when all is said and done.

We start this episode with a flash back of Walter and Jessie’s first cook out in the desert. Although the production team did a lousy job with wigs and what not, especially on Walt and Jessie, the scene had plenty of significance on how far the show has come from then to now.

After that, there was blood. The shootout that continued from last week involving Hank, Gomez, Todd, Uncle Jack and Crew has left two casualties and the way it all goes down will break your heart.

While Walter’s life is now in even bigger turmoil than ever before, he decides to commit the ultimate heinous act involving his family. If you hated Heisenberg before, there aren’t any words to describe how you will feel about him now.

This episode has brought almost everything fans have been waiting for. Some of it shocking, but most importantly, Walt finally tells Jessie the truth about what happened to Jane. The way he tells Jessie is his way of spitting in his face- like Jessie did to him in the previous episode. The truth of the matter is Walter White is evil- his transformation throughout this series is evident now.

A difficult moment to take in for this episode was when Walter Jr. found out the truth about his father. Although Walter Jr. did not take the news well, he did see finally the viscous side of Heisenberg. In one of the most intense scenes of this episode Walter Jr. was forced to make a decision in the heat of the moment that causes Walter to become one of the most hated characters on television, if he was not already.

While there are only two episodes left, the conclusion of this episode felt like it could have passed for a finale. Although Walt has some unfinished business, it will be interesting to see how this series will end. So far each episode of this season has been brilliant in the way the story has been pieced together. Creator Vince Gilligan thus far has made fans happy.

With only two episodes left the anticipation might not be as high as the previous episodes, but the outcome to what will happen to arguably one of televisions most iconic characters will be worth the wait.

I grew up in Bensonhurst Brooklyn, the same neighborhood many of the best mafia films of our day were based on, idolizing guys like Robert Deniro, Martin Scorsese and Al Pacino. I'm also a big sports fan and follow the New York Yankees immensely.
