5 Matches that Should be in WWE 2K14

2K Games recently revealed the full list of matches gamers will be re-playing in the “30 Years of Wrestlemania” story mode. While they are all solid picks, many fans feel that there are several matches that should be in the game as well. There are already 45 playable matches spanning the entire Wrestlemania legacy which should leave every fan of wrestling drooling. However, if there could be five more matches, here are the ones that should have made the jump from the ring to the game.

5. Wrestlemania XII – Goldust vs. Roddy Piper- Hollywood Backlot Brawl: It’s a real shame that this did not make it to 2K14 as the moments to recreate are begging for a video game’s touch. These men beat the hell out of each other in this classic bout. “Hot Rod” went as far as running Goldust over with a fitting gold Cadillac, which would have been a great moment to recreate- in addition to the non-traditional setting. An array of weapons for the gamer to choose from and a backstage setting to change the pace would have been ideal. The cut scenes would have been fantastic to watch as the two make their way to the arena as well as a “car chase” mini game. Even a mini game for the matches over the top finish would have been great fun. This also would have been a great excuse to put the two in the game.

4. Wrestlemania X – Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart: How did this gem get by 2K games? WWE recently settled a lawsuit with the fallen Hart’s wife, so there should be no reason for them to leave the match out. It is not only a great Wrestlemania match but one of the greatest matches of all time. Owen Hart as a playable character would have shed a lot of light on its legacy and the inclusion of this match in the game would have made wrestling marks cry (or at least claim WWE was doing something right “for once” despite still religiously watching the product-which proves WWE is doing something right anyway).

3. Wrestlemania XIV – Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie (aka Terry Funk) vs. The New Age Outlaws – Dumpster Match for the WWE Tag Team Championship: This match should have least been in the “Attitude Era” storyline of last years “WWE 13.” Like the Hollywood Backlot Brawl, this match has lots of could-have-been mini games and plenty of weapons to boot. It would have been a good way to break up the traditional singles matches that the rest of the game included with tag team turmoil. Instead of including the Undertaker vs. Kane match in two straight games, why wasn’t this bout chosen instead? They didn’t include the “Stone Cold Steve” Austin vs. Shawn Michaels match in back-to-back games.

2. Wrestlemania 2000 – The Hardy Boyz vs. The Dudley Boyz vs. Edge and Christian – Ladder Match for the WWE Tag Team Championship: Let’s face it. This contest stole the show at Wrestlemania 2000 and revolutionized both Tag Team and Hardcore wrestling. With the inclusion of Hulk Hogan’s likeness (which WWE owns,) it is likely that 2K Games could have been able to make this a very enjoyable experience. Think of the cinematics. Think of the moments to re-enact. Think of the carnage. Why would 2K Games not want to include this as part of its “30 Years of Wrestlemania” story mode?

1. Wrestlemania XX – Chris Benoit vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H – Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship: We all know why this can never be in a video game, let alone watched ever again through WWE. This match embodies what a Wrestlemania Main Event is all about. Blood, sweat, tears, heart and soul went into this timeless classic that is unfortunately overshadowed by the events surrounding Benoit’s death. The post-match celebration between Benoit and Eddie Guerrero transformed into a cutscene would have truly made it a very rewarding match to play through, but sadly the omission of this match is a necessary one.
