Sons of Anarchy Coverage: The Tara Show

Episode Commentary: Sweet and Vaded

This episode was certainly drama-filled. Between Tara’s “injury” and Jax’s decision to help Nero’s friend, this past episode of “Sons of Anarchy” hit all the right spots and finally appears to have its creative juices firing on all cylinders.

With the seeds of her plan beginning to grow, Tara now has Gemma and Jax at odds. How will thins affect the club moving forward? Now that Nero has been forced to make a choice and save himself or keep the club free from harm, can Gemma’s new predicament make his choice an easier one? Just a week after the club looked stronger than ever, things have quickly gone back into complete disarray.

Damn has this been fun the past two weeks.

They’ve also been kind of weird. With the club helping Nero’s transsexual friend, we’ve seen a much softer side of Jax, one that would have been put to perfect use in “50 Shades of Grey.” Regardless, what erotica literature fans have lost by Charlie Hunnam’s decision to not participate in the film has been Sons of Anarchy fans’ reward. Over the last two weeks, Hunnam’s versatility has been front and center. Trying to play multiple sides and prevent another war with the Irish, Hunnam’s character has been a wonderful politician, but has also found the time to be ruthless and compassionate.

The moment he fired his gun in this episode may go down as one of the most memorable spots in the history of the show.

For fans of the show, Hunnam has always been the reason to tune in. To see his character continue his growth process and come into his own again is one thing, but to see Tara playing puppet master behind the scenes is another thing altogether. Much like the relationship between Walter White and Skylar, it’s easy to see why fans of the show are beginning to hate Tara.

She’s devious, controlling and knows what she wants and is not scared to get what she wants. But don’t let your hate for her character misguide you. Maggie Siff’s performance this season has been stellar and one of the main reasons why the show hasn’t jumped the shark. With plenty of skeletons left in the closet and situations that yet to develop, the motorcycle club isn’t out of the woods yet.
