Walking Dead Coverage: Enter Tyrese?

Episode Commentary: Infected

“Infected” did pick up the pace with some intense scenes involving Walkers invading the prison, as the thought of a mutated virus becomes a possible reality. After so much time without any drama the group is faced with a legitimate threat. Business has picked up.

Several situations involved Carol and her mentoring the young kids. After all, she has been through with losing her daughter; it is interesting to see how strong she has become as a character. Also we see Rick go back to his old ways by putting on his belt along with his patented 44 magnum. Another reason we see Rick going back to his old self is that he gives Carl his gun back after he was told about Carol and her knife teaching methods to the other children in the group. Rick’s response was that he did not have a problem with what she did, and he would not do anything about it.

An interesting scene in this episode involved Michonne. While Judith was being held in her arms, Michonne began to weep. We know Michonne has a past, but the way she shows her emotions was brilliant acting and that brings curiosity in regards to her backstory. This brings up the questions, was she a mother? Did she lose a child? The mystery to her past makes her character that more enjoyable to watch.

Back at the prison gates, there was a close call that involved the Walkers. While Rick, Maggie and Daryl killed several Walkers at the fence, the amount of weight caused it to come down which almost led to those zombies occupying the prison and definitely bringing more trouble for the group. While the characters each seem to have their own significant roles this season, the one who stands alone from the rest is Herschel, who seems to have taken on the conservative leader role. Now that everyone is in danger of catching this new form of virus, he has instructed people to stay separated from each other, and to wear masks while digging holes. He’s a sense of comfort. The guidance he provides is similar to a father giving advice to his kids.

The climax of this episode was far from warm and comforting though. It will definitely bring fans to cover their eyes especially if they are squeamish. While Rick comes up with a distraction involving the Walkers and baby piglets, animal lovers will either feel sick to their stomachs, or will be disturbed to what they see and hear. It is definitely not an easy scene to watch. While the flu like virus is on the loose, we see that Tyrese finds an interesting discovery. The positive aspect about this situation is that Tyrese could become a major part of this season. That’s what fans have been waiting for.
