The Walking Dead Coverage: On the Road Again

Episode Commentary: “Internment”

While last episode of “The Walking Dead” took place on the road and away from the prison, this episode is total opposite. “Internment” has Rick come back to the prison where the virus is out of control and most of the infected have turned. What made this episode solid is that the big anticipation was slightly brought up that involved the whereabouts of Carol.

This episode was edgy and involved plenty of zombie action. Lives were lost and there were also a few close calls, especially involving a main characters. The highlight of this episode did take place in the end, when an old foe makes an appearance that should wreak massive consequences in the future.

As the virus has gotten worse, there are many of the infected who turned that as a result caused immediate danger in the prison. While Hershel does his best to care for the infected members of the group, there were several characters such as Sasha and Glenn almost bit the bullet. An emotional scene involved Glenn fighting for his life. While you felt that connection to the character it was tough to watch him struggle to fight for his life.

Rick ends up telling Maggie about Carol, who happens to take his side. She does question herself in terms of her making a decision of that magnitude, but Rick basically tells her not to sell herself short.  The episode picks up when several of the infected members of the group begin to turn and the prison turns into a war zone.  There were several close calls- one of which involved Hershel. The fact of the matter is if he were to lose his life, the remainder of the group would be in big trouble, because he is a big reason why most of them are still alive.  His courage and intelligence is a major reason why the prison has been a home to them for quite a while.

An interesting scene involved both Rick and Carl, who had sort of a “Call of Duty” moment, while they took out the walkers who broke through the fence with a couple of M-16s. It is cool to see their father and son relationship evolve through such catastrophic moment in their lives. Toward the end of the episode Daryl asks for Carol, and while we don’t see he and Rick discuss what happened to her, it should be interesting to see his reaction.

With just seconds remaining in the final seconds of the episode, the intense music hits and the camera zooms in on The Governor, standing and looking outside of the prison. It’s safe to say business has picked up and the group should expect another war.  Next week we should find out what The Governor has been up to and what his intentions are.
