IndieCade East 2014: A Saturday Recap

IndieCade, one of the fastest growing video game conventions is in New York this weekend and was at The Museum of the Moving Image. If you couldn’t make it, don’t fret, we’ve got you covered.

Here’s our Saturday recap:

The morning kicked off with a keynote titled “PlayStation & Friends,” which gathered the Sony Computer Entertainment America developer relations team as well as other developers together to discuss their experiences in working with PlayStation platforms. Over 100 fans showed up to listen in, asking questions and taking notes.

Tons of other keynotes were presented, including, “Encouraging Women in Game Development through Community, “Education and Development,” “Flappy Bird Wake,” “When Indie Games Came in Ziploc Bags” and “Play Matters (and Games Don’t).”

Several titles were available for hands-on as well, including “Murasaki Baby,” “Killer Queen,” “Crypt of the NecroDancer,” “Octodad: Dadliest Catch” (on PS4) and more; we also got our first hands-on with the Oculus Rift virtual reality gaming headset, so expect a bunch of previews in the coming days.

eSports is here in full force, showcasing their games in a room dedicated to them on a huge projector so all can see. Today, “Foiled,” “Particle Mace,” “Stikbold” and “LAZA KNITEZ” were all open to the public, wether it was for a quick one-on-one or an exciting teamed based tournament, eSports had it all. A new line-up is scheduled for tomorrow.

The top floor was home of the “Indie Essentials: 25 Must-Play Video Games” exhibition, which will remain at the Musuem of the Moving Image until March 2. We’ll have more on this soon as well.

By 7 pm, IndieCade packed up and well, started the after party. That’s right, the last event of the night was called “Night Games,” held throughout the museum until 10 pm, filled with beer, games and free stuff.

Tomorrow, February 16, is the last day of IndieCade East 2014, so be sure to check back for more.
