TNA Impact Wrestling Coverage: The Beginning of the MVP Era

In the wake of Team MVP’s win at Lockdown, it was expected that Impact Wrestling would have a different type of flavor.

Between the returns of Angelina Love and Bobby Lashley and the Impact debuts of Tigre Uno and Sanada, as well as another Kenny King vignette, Impact Wrestling was a far better show than NXT this week.

Let the MVP Era begin.

Matches:

Samoa Joe vs. Abyss: The chants chanted “Joe is gunna kill you,” as he basically tore in Abyss. But with his mid-section hurt, Joe wasn’t able to maintain an advantage. Working on his injured body, Abyss fought back. Naturally Joe fought back with chops and his signature Back Splash, but every move hurt him more. After a Knee in the corner, Joe tried the Musclebuster, but couldn’t pull it off, allowing Abyss to hit the Chokeslam. With Joe down, Abyss picked up Janice and went to strike Joe, but Eric Young it the ring and nailed Abyss with the top rope Dropkick to get the match thrown out.

Brittany vs. Gail Kim w/Lei’D Tapa: Kim began the match with a Yakuza Kick and kept the pressure on. Although Brittany fought back with strikes, Kim was on her game. But when Tapa got involved and accidentally hit Kim, Brittany was able to (horribly) roll up Kim for the surprising win. After the match, Kim and Tapa went at it, apparently beginning their own feud.

TNA Tag Team Champions Robbie E and Jessie Godderz w/Zema Ion vs. TNA X Division Champion Sanada and Tigre Uno: The Bromans used power moves early on, but Sanada and Tigre Uno were solid as high flyers. After they sold through the early part of the match, they went on a tear, hitting everything from Front Dropkicks and Suicide Dives. After the stretch of wild moves, Sanada hit the Moonsault for the win.

Street Fight: Sam Shaw vs. Mr. Anderson: A quick match that saw Anderson capitalize on Shaw’s obsession with his Christy Hemme Mannequin and hit the Mic Check for the win.

Rockstar Spud vs. Willow: Spud never had a chance. After beating on Spud for a few minutes, Willow put him in the tree of woe and then nailed him in the groin with his umbrella. After he caught the referee with the Twist of Fate, he made Spud the victim of a Reverse Michinoku Driver. The destruction continued when Willow put Spud’s leg in a chair and beat on it before he climbed a ladder and hit the Splash.

After the match, Bully Ray hit the ring and called out Bobby Roode, who he hit with the Bully Cutter and then Powerbombed through a table.
