NXT Coverage: New Teeth, No Problems for Neville

It’s crazy. Even without Sami Zayn and Corey Graves, this week’s NXT was still enjoyable.

Simply put, NXT continues to find ways to cut to the chase. After a five-card program last week, NXT topped themselves yet again with six bouts in just 53 minutes. While that definitely leaves something to be said for the lack of storyline, the Ring of Honor-esque show had three solid matches and three others that will build feuds and produce storyline.

With Triple H’s announcement of the next two hour NXT show, Takeover, on May 29 as well, it’s easy to see that NXT will continue to mold itself into a separate entity, but one that will help build the WWE product moving forward.

Matches:

Tyson Kidd vs. Bo Dallas: A good 10-minute opener that saw Kidd win with a Blockbuster. Dallas was noticeably peeved after the loss. What does this mean for the former NXT Champion? Even more, what does this mean for Kidd? Will the former WWE Tag Team Champion pose a threat to NXT Champion Adrian Neville?

NXT Women’s Title Tournament: Sasha Banks vs. Bayley: A fun match between the easy to see face and heel. Things heated up fast as both competitors traded strikes before a flurry of signature maneuvers at the end. While Bayley hit her trademark Belly-to-Belly Suplex, Banks was smart enough to roll out of the ring. Banks quickly nailed her Backroll finisher, but Bayley kicked out. Fueled by hate, Banks hit the Backstabber and seamlessly floated over into a modified Crossface for the submission win. If you didn’t like Banks before, it’s hard not to now.

Adam Rose vs. Danny Birch: Rose made quick work of the tough Englishman with a modified diving front 3/4 neck breaker for the win. Still confused? Think Dean Ambrose’s finisher, but in the Neckbreaker stance, rather than the Bulldog. After weeks of looking for a decent finisher, it appears Rose has found it.

NXT Women’s Title Tournament: Layla vs. Nattie Neidhart: Why is this match taking place? Neidhart’s promo before the match was a joke as well.A dream to compete for the NXT Women’s title? You’re kidding right? Neidhart won with the Sharpshooter and will take on Banks later in the tournament.

Mojo Rawley vs. Oliver Grey: Rawley gets the fans excited but continues to prove he’s a one trick piny. After his signature offense, he hit the Hyper Drive for the win.

NXT Champion Adrian Neville vs. Brodus Clay: Neville won with the Red Arrow, but the big news was that he kicked out of a Clay Powerbomb and a second-rope Splash. Great for his young career, but what does it mean for Clay?
