HEALING AND BALANCING CHAKRA ENERGY WITH MUSIC : OMKARA – THE SOUND OF DIVINE LOVE TO BE RELEASED JULY 15, 2014

In literature, poetry, art, philosophy and theology, music has been credited with mood-heightening, emotion-altering, life-saving properties. Science has, over the years, attempted to prove that melodic sound does in fact hold power. OMKARA – THE SOUND OF DIVINE LOVE takes the science of music to the chakras – the seats of our energies – to inspire healing and balancing through beautifully arranged tones and elevated vibrations.

The album includes eight tracks, each representing one of the seven chakras (plus an eighth realm called Heaven Bridge). The chakras are energy centers that balance the physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual aspects of being, and each can be affected by musical notes. The music meshes the genres of Classical, Ragas, Western music, and World music with deliberately crafted frequencies.

“With the concept and sounds of OMKARA, I feel like we have brought Indian music a large step forward. It is a unique experience of Eastern and Western music, based on tradition yet with forward-thinking creations of sound,” says Sarmah. In addition to its contribution to the musical landscape, OMKARA is based on years of research about ancient music and fundamental science which could affect human body and mind. “My goal is to uplift consciousness in the world however I can. My work reflects the message of Oneness in God, Humanity, World Peace and Love.” The research about Omkara Music Therapy is currently ongoing at Spastic Society (Disability Institute) and with cancer patients, documenting relief from pain, disease and depression.

Sarmah collaborated with musicians and vocalists from India and around the world. The tracks are created with instrumental and vocal arrangement with the majestic sound of Mohan Veena by Grammy® Winner Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. Other musicians on this project are Padmashri Sumitra Guha, Grammy® winner Laura Sullivan, Rocio Marron, Pandit Subhen Chatterjee, Pranjal Borah, Matthias Muller from Germany, Jonathan Kay from Canada, and many others. The album was conceived and produced by Sarmah, and mastered by Grammy®-winning Engineer Brian Vibberts (Michael Jackson, Aerosmith, Ringo Starr, Green Day, Tony Bennett). The full length of the record is more than 100 minutes.

Rupam Sarmah is originally from Assam, India and currently living in California. He has written songs in various languages and has directed music in feature films that have received a number of International awards. As a film director, Sarmah earned the Best Documentary Award for the film IN SEARCH OF GOD at the International Indian Film Festival. He is a Guinness World Record® holder for composing and directing a symphony ‘A Musical Journey for World Peace’ with 315 unique musical instruments from all over the world and over 500 performers on the stage. He is a voting member of Grammy® as a Musician, Producer and Engineer.
