‘Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham’ Initial Thoughts

Another year and yet another licensed Lego game. “Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham” is another Lego styled beat-em-up aimed at younger gamers and comic fans alike. It is a cute and quirky game with a lot of bad guys to beat and legos to collect. With a current trend of games making you buy each new character, it is refreshing to see that “Lego Batman 3” has over 150 unlockable and playable characters. The characters include many of everyone’s favorite batman heroes and many favorites from the DC comics roster. Also included are cameos from celebrities such as comic book geek Kevin Smith and late night host Conan O’Brien.

The action is the same as most Lego games, but the visual style and that easy to pick up and play game play really draw you in. This is a fun game for children as well as adults. Switching control of your characters on the fly is a must in order to solve the puzzled scattered throughout each stage. The split-screen mechanic seen in the “Lego Marvel Super Heroes” game is back. When both player’s characters are in close enough proximity to one another the game shows them on a single screen but when the action calls for them to move out on their own the screen shifts into two smaller screens and follows each hero.

With the popularity of the DC comics show “Arrow,” the first DLC announced at New York City Comic Con to focus on the Green Arrow himself. Fans can look forward to playing as the Green Arrow and even play in an Green Arrow inspired level.

“Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham” is set to release on November 11on all current and last-gen consoles, as well as iOS devices.
