Review Fix: What has the development process been like?
Jerome Bodin: Quite straightforward. The prototype with basic fighting was ready, playable and fun after maybe one month, and from there it was just about new features, content and graphics.
Review Fix: What has been the biggest hurdle during development?
Bodin: We ran on severe performance issues on the older PC version and it took some time to correct them to have the game going smooth on mobile platforms.
Review Fix: What was the inspiration for the game?
Bodin: Of course the 90s J-RPG, like Final Fantasy, but also more modern and indie rogue-like games.
Review Fix: What games did you play as a kid? How did they influence this one?
Bodin: I guess Fred and I were fond of J-RPGs, T-RPGs and strategy games, we played dozens of them, so it’s hard to tell exactly which ones had the deepest impact on our creative process.
Review Fix: What makes it work well on the iOS and Android?
Bodin: We had in mind, even in the older PC version, the option to play it with touch gestures. The basic feature of the game, which is switching characters by simply drag n dropping one onto another, is very intuitive for any tablet user.
Review Fix: Who do you think will enjoy it the most?
Bodin: The game should appeal to J-RPGs fans that are open to a storyless, action-focused experience ; also to casual players who want to try a new and intuitive gameplay with a bit of challenge.
Review Fix: Bottom Line, why should someone play this game?
Bodin: The game is quite simple and you can dive in quickly, but you’ll find a great challenge even in finishing the first dungeon. If you’re up to it, and ready to die many times, I think you should try out QuestRun.
