The Zelda Series: Fishing!

Fishing is recurring minigame from the Zelda series. The fishing minigame first appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. Throughout the years, a lot of Zelda games implemented this fun and addictive minigame. By using a fishing rod you are able to fish in different ponds. During the games Link’s Awakening and Ocarina of Time fishing rods can only be obtained by renting them for some money. The fishing rod is made available as an inventory item in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. If you are able to catch a fish that has a certain weight you will be gifted with a Piece of Heart e.g. health. That little bit of health isn’t the real reason why this minigame became so popular. It provided some good distraction for when you were fed up with dungeon crawling. It’s the thrill of the hunt that really keeps you going!

Well, this is somewhat more of an easter egg, but we think it still counts as a minigame. If you are using Google Chrome then you are probably familiar with the little T-Rex-like dinosaur that shows up when you computer isn’t connected to the Internet. A lot of people don’t know that this is actually a minigame that has been build into this popular browser. Just disconnect from the internet and wait for the dinosaur to show up in your browser. Hit the space bar and the T-rex will start running! The objective is quite simple: press spacebar while the dinosaur is running to make him jump over obstacles. This minigame is also available for Chrome on your Android device! Just put your tablet or smartphone in airplane mode and give it a shot!

Watchdogs

If you feel the need to get away from all the hacking, bloodshed and investigating, Ubisoft’s Watchdogs offers a wide array of minigames. By completing these minigames you can earn awards and achievements. Some of these minigames are quite easy while others demand certain skills from the player. For example, if you don’t know how to play chess in real life, you surely won’t win at chess in Watchdogs. But for some games minigames you don’t need have a lot of knowledge. Take the drinking game; you chug drinks and have to move the cursors together afterwards. After some drinks your screen will get blurry and it becomes harder to move the cursors. Just like real life drinking! Then there are the luck based games like the slots machine. The video game slots operate in the same way they do in real life: the player has to bet some money and align identical images in order to win an amount of cash.
