Review Fix chats with Peter Anthony and Madelynn Elyse of Polaris Rose who discuss their single, “Tigerbait†and their upcoming album. After a busy 2015, the duo is geared up for an even more hectic 2016. Powered by solid musicianship and catchy hooks and nifty vocal harmonization, Polaris Rose definitely have a unique sound.
Review Fix: What inspired your new single Tigerbait?
Polaris Rose: ’TigerBait’ was just one of those songs that poured out of us. I think we were looking for a way to express our feelings about how we all communicate with one another. With all the clickbait and native advertising that pummels us each day, we can sometimes trick ourselves into thinking we have all the answers. But we don’t believe that. We think headlines are oftentimes misleading. News stories are less news and are actually just persuasive arguments. Like everyone else, we read things by Buzzfeed and other sites, but we try to take it with a grain of salt.
Review Fix: What makes it different from your previous work?
Polaris Rose: We think that ‘TigerBait’ and the other songs on ‘Ocean Blue, Velvet Skies’ are a further refinement of what we tried to do with ‘Telescopes’ (our last record). We wanted this record to have a ‘beach’ theme, so you’ll hear that in the arrangement.
Review Fix: Bottom line, why should someone check it out?
Polaris Rose: The message of the song is – we think – relevant to our shared experiences in the modern, clickbait world. Plus, it’s a fun song.
Review Fix: How’s the new album coming along?
Polaris Rose: ‘Ocean Blue, Velvet Skies’ is all done! And we’re super proud of it. The album is the second part of a 6-part series and its set at the beach. To execute the record, we brought onboard John Spiker (Tenacious D, Beck, Filter) to mix. We also had Eric Boulanger (One Republic) to master. They brought our vision to a higher place and we are so grateful to have had their help.
Review Fix: What can fans expect from it?
Polaris Rose: ‘Ocean Blue, Velvet Skies’ takes the sound of our last album ‘Telescopes’ and goes even deeper into our style of song composition. Stranger chords, lots of harmonies, and driving guitars.
Review Fix: How has your creative process changed over the years?
Polaris Rose: It really hasn’t, ha-ha. We still create the same way we did on our first EP.
Review Fix: What are your goals for 2016?
Polaris Rose: Step one is releasing ‘Ocean Blue, Velvet Skies’ and all of its singles. We will be playing around California and venturing just a little further east to some cities we’ve never been before. We’re really excited for that! Plus, we are already tracking our 3rd album. Finishing it will be a big goal for us this year.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Polaris Rose: We have a lot on our plate these upcoming months. Video shoots, editing, shows are LA… the actual album release in March. Lots to do.  But we are excited by the response we’ve been seeing for ‘TigerBait’ and are excited for the coming months.
