Hell’s Kitchen Coverage: Team’s a Changin’

Don’t hurt your back over getting pelted by paintballs, because these chefs have it in for a lot worse in a new episode of “Hell’s Kitchen.” Don’t expect to be entertained much by this week’s episode, though.

For some strange reason, this episode does not have the commercial break animations that are well-known for this series. Just like how they changed when the opening is shown, it feels awkward.

The chefs heard music coming from the dining room in the morning. It was Steve Vai and his band playing. This was the greatest “Hell’s Kitchen” opening ever for the simple fact that Ramsay got Steve Vai.

After that awesome performance, the chefs were then told that each team had to create a dish using seven ingredients, one with six, one with five, one with four and one with three. Each chef had to choose one protein (lobster, pork chop, sea bass, hanger steak or ahi tuna.)

This was the Blue Team’s worst showing this season. They lost 3-1. Their punishment was to unload trucks for delivery day while the Red team enjoyed a day of paintball. Two noteworthy things here: The first was Jackie let her “Jersey Girl” by being really aggressive. The second was Manda hurting her back. It seems like injuries are common place in “Hell’s Kitchen.” The good news was her injury wasn’t bad enough to send her home.

Before dinner service, Ramsay made the chefs take a vow of ‘I will not suck.” Of course, these chefs did suck.

Jarred started things off for the Blue by taking the pan off the heat when cooking scallops. Ramsay really gave it to him for doing that. Throughout dinner service, Manda had plenty of problems due to her back causing her to not be able to move fast. Not to mention nobody wanted to help her when most of the orders were meat. This caused a huge backlog, which in turn caused two undercooked NY strips. Ramsay later had to take Manda in the back room for a talk. Jarred and Chad at one point stopped communicating with each other which made Ramsay force them to sit in the chef’s table seat and make them talk to each other.

Not a lot happened in the Red. It was mostly Dannie getting bossed by everyone and near the end garnish (Jackie) backed up the entire kitchen.

Suffice to say, the Blue Team was the worst team that night. They chose Manda and Jarred for elimination. Ramsay had other ideas. He sent Dannie to the Blue and Chad to the Red.

This was a pretty mediocre episode. This was one of those paint by numbers episodes. Dannie and Chad changing teams will not change much between those two. They will be gone soon.
