WWE RAW Coverage: Triple H Helps Owens Claim WWE Universal Championship

If you took out the last five minutes of this week’s RAW, the show would have been a complete bust.

However, with the crowning of a new Universal Champion in Kevin Owens and an appearance from Triple H, this week’s episode of RAW leaves plenty to discuss and a plethora of creative opportunities.

It didn’t matter that the rest of the card was squash-Match filled and featured poor storyline and  was just a sluggishly paced mess.

Owens’ capturing of the WE Universal Championship changes everything.

Matches:

Chris Jericho vs. Adrian Neville: Jericho got the win with a rare Lion Tamer, but Neville nearly won on several occasions with his usual assortment of high-flying offense.

Ion vs. Nia Jax: Another squash as Jax got the win with the modified Death Valley Driver.

Jinder Mahal vs. Sami Zayn: Mahal dished out some punishment, but Zayn got the win with the Exploder and Helluva Kick.

Mixed Six-Man Tag: WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day Kofi Kingston Big E. Langston and Kofi Kingston and Bayley w/Xavier Woods vs. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson and Dana Brooke: A fun match where The New Day got most of their licks in. Was weird to see Brooke use the Club wolf hand gesture a few times, but it is what it is. Bailey got the win with the Belly-to-Bayley.

Best of Seven: Match Two: Sheamus vs. Cesaro: Sheamus got the win with the Cloverleaf after Sheamus Back Body Dropped Cesaro into the ring post on the outside. Cesar was in control for most of the match, hitting a ton of technical offense, but overall, this was a weak match compared to their first encounter.

Braun Strowman vs. Americo: Another squash as Strowman beat his opponent with a modified version of his Reverse Chokeslam. After the match he pulled off his opponents mask.

Darren Young w/Bob Backlund vs. Titus O’Neil: Young got the win with a Rollup, but O’Neil nailed Young with the Clash of the Titus and took out Backlund after the match.

Universal Championship Four-Way: Seth Rollins vs. Colin Cassady vs. Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns: Cass was eliminated first after an Owens Frog Splash in a match that was hampered by commercial breaks. Ironically from there Reigns and Rollins battled for the majority of the rest of the match, but Owens popped back in and nailed both Rollins and Reigns with Cannonballs before he was forced to kick out of a Superman Punch. Reigns then hit Owens with another Superman Punch and nearly beat Rollins with his Sit-Out Powerbomb variation. After Reigns hit the Spear on Rollins on the outside, Triple H appeared and hit the Pedigree on Reigns on the outside. Once Rollins pinned Reigns, Triple H nailed Rollins with the Pedigree as well, allowing Owens to win the WWE Universal Championship.
