WWE RAW Coverage: Owens Celebrates, Fans Fall Asleep

Away from Seth Rollins’ apparent face-turn and more drama between the New Day and Gallows and Anderson, this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW was an absolute snoozer. With no Triple H and a slew of squash matches, there was little reason to tune in.

Matches:

(Non-Title) Bailey vs. WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair w/Dana Brooke: A sluggish pace early on and a few botched spots didn’t help what could have been an amazing match. Flair worked on Bayley’s knee throughout the match with strikes and submissions and even used the turnbuckle post to get an advantage. But once Flair and Brooke got their line son communication crossed, Bayley capitalized with the Bayley-to-Belly for the win.

Bo Dallas vs. Kyle Roberts: Dallas got the squash win with the Roll of the Dice.

Chris Jericho vs. Seth Rollins: This wasn’t nearly as exciting as it could have been. Jericho was more entertaining here, but the match was far from the athletic showcase it could have been. Rollins was sharp with the Sling Blade and Blockbuster and escaped the Walls of Jericho on two separate occasions. After Rollins countered the Code Breaker, Rollins finished off Jericho with the Pedigree.

Best of Seven: Match Three: Sheamus (2-0) vs. Cesaro (0-2): Sheamus decimated Cesaro with all-out offensive performance, getting the win with the Brogue Kick to go up 3-0.

Big Cass and Enzo Amore vs. The Shining Stars: Primo and Epico: Cass and Amore dominated, but Epico stole the win with the Rollup and a handful of tights.

Mia Jax vs. Ann Esposito: Another squash as Jax won with the Fireman’s Carry Powerslam.

Darren Young w/Bob Backlund vs. Jinder Mahal: Young got the win with the Gut Check and then fought with Titus O’Neil on the outside.

Sin Cara vs. Braun Strowman: Cara and Strowman fought it out on the outside in a boring battle that the big man won via count-out. After the match, Strowman ran Cara over to make a statement.

WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn: Best match of the night, but a weaker one by their standards. Owens was tough as usual and Zayn fought back hard as the underdog. Zayn nearly won with the Blue Thunder Bomb, but Owens dodged a Half Nelson Suplex but got nailed with an Exploder Suplex. Owens then escaped the Helluva Kick and after they traded counters on the apron, Owens hit a corner Clothesline and a Cannonball, but Zayn countered with a Half Nelson Suplex for a near-fall. The action then went to the outside where Zayn hit another Half-Nelson Suplex. Once back in the ring however, Owens countered a Helluva Kick and won with the Pop-Up Powerbomb.

After the match, Roman Reigns hit the ring and Chris Jericho came to support Owens, but soon enough RAW GM Mick Foley was on the ramp and announced Reigns will have a shot at Owens next week and if he wins, he’ll get a title shot at Clash of Champions.
