Review Fix Exclusive 2016 NYCC Coverage: Ash vs Evil Dead Season Two Roundtable

This past Sunday, “Ash vs Evil Dead” kicked off it’s sophomore season with blood, guts and revelations about the past of Ash (Bruce Campbell) and just like that season premiere – the cast of the hit STARZ original series lighted the torch signaling the beginning of New York Comic Con with their panel at Hammerstein Ballroom.

After their panel in which they showcased the season’s second episode before it airs on Sunday, Review Fix had the opportunity to discuss the challenges of the new season, gore, practical effects and the six million dollar addition to the cast: Lee Majors.

Here are five things we learned about season two of “Ash vs Evil Dead.”

The Evolution of Ash:

If season one of “Ash vs Evil Dead” taught us anything, there is more to the deadite slaying stock boy – and that trend continues in season two.

“We’re fleshing him out past the two-dimensional, you know, smarmy talking guy,” said Campbell. “Now he has to be a hero, he has to interact, he has to be a leader, he has to be compassionate, he has to care and they have to work as a team now.”

There Will Be Blood… and Lots of It:

Spoiler alert, season two of “Ash vs Evil Dead” has tons of blood. The season premiere alone features so much blood; it will have you wondering if they just have a blank check when it comes to blood.

“I alone had about 26 gallons of blood blasted in my face,” Dana DeLorenzo, who plays Kelly on the series, said when describing one the scenes in the premiere. “That kind of sets the bar for season two.”

Touched By a Deadite:

As fun as the “Evil Dead” franchise is, every character that has encountered the power of the Necronomicon has forever changed – Pablo, played by Ray Santiago, is the most positive of Ash’s monster-hunting group, but even he must face the horror of the Necronomicon.

“Everybody on this show definitely changes from the way they start, “said Santiago “With Pablo, we get to see that really hardcore this season.”

“Ray gets tortured so much this season,” said DeLorenzo. “Kelly got it season one, Pablo gets it so bad in season two.”

Ruby Joins The Gang:

Last season saw Lucy Lawless’ Ruby chasing down Ash, Kelly and Pablo – this season sees Ruby seeking them out for help.

Ruby enlists the help of the group to find out why her children have turned on her and that is a welcome change for Lawless.

“It was a great relief to finally come into the group,” said Lucy Lawless. “I love it, it’s just fun be on set with these guys instead of off on your own, hunting for them.”

Lee Majors, Nuff’ Said:

The latest and greatest addition to the cast of season two is “Six Million Dollar Man” star Lee Majors. The icon plays Ash’s father, Brock Williams.

Majors, who never saw any of the “Evil Dead” films or season one before being offered the part, was immediately sucked in by the ridiculously fun nature of the series.

“It was bat shit crazy and funny, so I said I got to be apart of that,” said Majors, describing his reaction of the first season. “I don’t know how you can chainsaw somebody’s head off and throw out such funny lines.”

“Ash vs Evil Dead” airs Sundays at 8pm ET/PT on STARZ.
