Review Fix chats with X-Method’s Abby Gassama who discusses the band’s new album, creative process and goals for 2018. Although they’ve been around for years, Gassamma believes this could be the year the band breaks through to a new audience.
Review Fix: How did you guys get together?
The guitarist Tony and I (Abby) have known each other since high school, we played in two bands with each other in the late 90s one of them being the early version of X-Method, Chris, Jordie and Ricardo we met playing shows with bands they were in, our drummer Ricardo is still in Toxin who we will be touring with, the dude is a beast, double duty is nuts!
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Abby Gassama: I have riffs and lyrics floating around my head on a daily basis so I keep a voice recorder with me just in case I hear something inspiring, if I hear something cool I get on my computer music program and make a mock version of it, subsequently I send it to the boys to get their vibe, so by the next time we get together for practice we make changes as needed and finalize the song.
Review Fix: What do you think makes this band special?
Gassama: X-Method is special because we are all about our fans, we always take the time to talk to them, sign autographs, etc etc, I grew up in the metal/thrash metal scene since the old school days and the worse thing to see is when someone a kid has looked up to for years does not stop to give that kid their time or act arrogant, because to be quite honest the fans put these bands in the position they’re in to shine, that kid does not have to buy our music, tickets, t-shirts, stickers etc. etc. so I will always be grateful to the people that are putting me in the position to live my dream.
Review Fix: How would you describe your style?
Gassama: Aggressive, pissed off party music with a touch of melodic melancholy
Review Fix: What are your goals for this album?
Gassama: Our goal is the gain as many new fans as possible worldwide, we want to rock crowds that sing the lyrics with us, stage dive and mosh like the worlds going to end.
Review Fix: What’s the standout song? Is there a story behind it?
Gassama: For sure DRINK FROM THE HORN! That song is a fun one to play live and the people really enjoy moshing to it.. I wrote that song behind a Viking horn my buddy gave me when he first left to The Army, a lot of people seem to think that we were trying to copy Amon Amarth, although they are a great band I really enjoy, that song was written about a horn I was gifted over 20 years ago
Review Fix: What’s next?
Gassama: North American tour, European tour, the release of our new ep Apparition Of The Crypt on the label Rock Syndicate Records , return to South America for our 3rd tour and setting up tours for Australia, Canada and Japan.
