BCPW: Bash in the Bronx Coverage: Awesome Indie Action

BCPW continues to prove they are a promotion to pay attention to with Nine excellent matches that feature the likes of Mia Yim, LAX, and Jimmy Havoc. Women’s wrestling was at the forefront of the show with two must-see matches on the card. the Ugly Ducklings continued to win over the crowd with a hard-fought match against Diamond Dogs and Federated. And the main event pitted Jimmy Havoc against Matt Macintosh in an anything goes match that was equally hilarious and brutal.

Matches:

Trigga The OG w/ Rich Bass vs. Tyler Murphy: A great opening match to get the crowd excited. The bout started with a lock up and Murphy going for a quick roll-up for a no-count. The match then promptly picked up the pace with a series of chops and arm drags followed by a dropkick from Tyler Murphy. Bass then interfered after the ref got distracted allowing Trigga The OG to gain the upper hand. After a brutal beatdown from OG and a whiffed moonsault, Tyler Murphy would hit a fisherman falcon arrow called Project Mayhem for the win.

Harlow O’Hara vs. Mia Yim: The crowd was pumped for this one as both women got huge ovations during their entrances. After some trash talk and trading headlock takeovers, Yim would put a single-leg Boston crab on O’Hara. Yim then hit a brutal penalty kick on the ring apron followed by a series of chops and a Neckbreaker from the second rope would only get Yim a one-count. Dueling chants of “Harlow!” and “Mia!” as well as a well deserved “This is awesome!” chant would fill the gymnasium. O’Hara would then go for some offense of her own hitting a cannonball, a pair of particularly brutal suplexes, and a stunner all for two counts. Yim answered back with a Package Piledriver to pick up the pinfall victory.

Anthony Bowens vs. Alexander James: A classic good guy vs. bad guy match with the crowd firmly behind Anthony Bowens. The match started with some fantastic technical wrestling as both competitors would counter hold after hold until Bowens would hit a big dropkick to gain the upper hand sending James to the outside. James would then hit Bowens with a brutal uppercut as Bowens attempted a suicide dive. James would continue the assault by focusing on Bowens’ arm. Bowens would try and make a comeback with a flurry of chops only to be cut down by a vicious spinning back elbow by James followed by a cover and a two-count. A fired up Bowens would then hit a leapfrog Fame-Asser, shining wizard combination called the Dragon Dagger for the three-count.

Dan Dyckart Invitational Gauntlet Match: The match would begin with Ace Austin, and Trevor Aeon trading blows until Ken Dixon entered. After which CPA entered the bout. Once Tracer X entered about a minute later the pace of the match would quicken. A hurricanrana and dropkick would send the competitors to the outside. Tasha Steelz would then make her entrance to a huge ovation. After a slap and a head-scissors takedown, the ring announcer, Mark Adam Haggerty would enter the fray. After running away from Tasha Steelz for some time, Joe Gacy would make his entrance. He would then proceed by beating down anyone unfortunate enough to stand in front of him. A vicious right hand by Tasha Steelz to Mark A Haggarty followed by a cover from Gacy would lead to the first elimination of the match. After a tower of doom would wipe out the field allowing Austin to hit an inverted frog splash and TracerX to hit a 450 onto Dixon for the three count and the second elimination of the bout. Ace would then land a double springboard legdrop onto Aeon and TracerX, pinning X for the third elimination in the match. After which Gacy would prove his athletic ability by landing a handspring cutter onto Austin for the fourth pinfall. A stunner from Steelz, a DDT from CPA and a vicious knee called Bye Bye Beautiful from Aeon would end the reign of terror of Joe Gacy. CPA would then hit Aeon with a sit-out spinebuster for the penultimate elimination. CPA would attempt to hit Steelz with a maneuver from the top rope but would be caught with a cutter from Steelz for the final pinfall giving Steelz the victory. Dan Dyckart would then come out to congratulate Steelz only to be met with a low blow followed by a standing ovation from the crowd.

Diamond Dogs (Luke Langley and Graham Bell) vs. The Ugly Ducklings (Lance Lude and Rob Killjoy w/ Coach Mikey) vs. Federated (Mik Drake and Brute VanSlyke w/Elliot Martinez): The Ugly Ducklings were the clear fan favorite here as chants of “Quack! Quack! Quack!” rang through the gymnasium as they made their entrance as well as throughout the match. A brawl broke out before the match could even start with the Ducks hitting a pair of suicide dives onto the opposing teams. Once some semblance of order was established the time-keeper rang the bell, and the match was underway. Mik Drake of Federated quickly tagged himself in much to the chagrin of Luke Langley. After a beatdown and Bell tagging himself in Lude got the hot tag onto Killjoy, who hit a big double stomp for a two count. Mik Drake tagged himself back in and tossed Killjoy across the ring with an overhead belly to belly suplex. All hell broke loose again with every team hitting big moves. Coach Mikey got into an argument with Federated’s manager Elliot Martinez. VanSlyke quickly noticed and gave chase to Mikey who ran under the ring. After Vanslyke emerged holding coach Mikey’s hat, Real American started playing, and Mikey came out from under the ring donning the red and yellow. Unfortunately, a sloppy series of punches and a botched slam ruined the moment. Federated would then hit a German suplex and a crucifix cutter onto Killjoy for the three count and the victory.

BCP ICONS Championship Match: Samantha Heights vs. Jordynne Grace: Women’s wrestling was in good hands here as Heights and Grace put on an excellent match. Starting off with some fantastic chain wrestling and a test of strength which the champion won with ease. Heights would catch Grace in a drop toe hold and try to hit some offense, but the champ would power out and hit a stalled verticle suplex slam for a two count. Grace would continue to use her power advantage to dominate Heights, hitting suplexes and putting on bearhugs to wear her down. The challenger would continue to try and make a comeback, hitting a suicide dive and a blockbuster, both for two counts. Eventually, Grace would hit a devastating Vader bomb to retain.

After the match, Harlow O’Hara would come out and challenge the champion, asking for a title opportunity at the next BCPW event. Grace would respond by saying she could have a title opportunity right then and there. The bell rang, and Grace started beating down O’Hara right away. The champion then attempted another Vader bomb, trying to win quickly, but missed, allowing O’Hara to hit the Last Rite, a leg hook DDT, for the pinfall and to become new ICONS Champion.

Strong Style Brand (Austin Theory and JT Dunn) vs. LAX (Santana and Ortiz): The crowd was electric for this match, and rightfully so. This was the match of the night. It would start off with a collar and elbow tie-up between Theory and Ortiz. A single leg dropkick and a tag team belly to back suplex onto Theory would allow LAX to get ahead early. An assisted shooting star press and a falling headbutt would lead to a two-count for LAX. Ortiz would then knock Dunn off the apron but get caught with a cutter as he gave chase, leading to a two-count for SSB. Dunn would once again get thrown to the outside but climb back in hitting tandem elbows with Theory before Theory would land a standing double shooting star press on LAX for a two count. The match would then devolve into a slugfest, as both teams hit their most devastating maneuvers. An elbow/cutter combination from SSB and a cover that was broken up by Santana led to the crowd erupting into a “This is awesome!” chant. Eventually LAX would hit a big boot followed by a neckbreaker from the top rope for a three count.

“The Father of Change” Darius Carter vs. “The Revolutionary” Darius Lockheart: Carter entered to a chorus of boos, reveling in it as he made his way to the ring. The match began with some excellent technical wrestling in the form of wristlocks, small joint manipulation, and a crucifix roll-up onto Carter for a two-count. Lockheart and Carter would then trade slaps and continue their technical wrestling clinic. Lockheart then tangled up Carter into a pretzel and hit him with a thunderous dropkick. Lockheart would then ask the crowd to repeat after him and proceeded by stomping out Carter in the corner chanting “Be!” with every stomping and ending it with “Revolutionary.” Lockheart would then go for a baseball slide, but Carter would catch it and slam Lockheart’s face into the ring post. The match would then speed up with both men hitting stiff strikes for two-counts. Lockheart continued by hitting a dropkick on the outside, but Carter answered back with a jaw-shattering big boot for a two count. Carter would continue his offense by hitting a Codebreaker he calls the Foreclosure for the pinfall victory.

Main Event: Jimmy Havoc vs. “The Bad Apple” Matt Macintosh: Before the match began Havoc cut a promo saying that in his ring, anything goes. The bell then rang and Macintosh ever so slyly reached out for a handshake but was met with a middle-finger from Havoc. The war then began with a rabbit punch from Havoc sending Macintosh to the outside. Havoc would follow up with a Tope Suicida and continued the punishment by slamming Macintoshes head into the ring posts and choking him out with his jacket. Havoc would then go for a baking tray that would be seized by Macintosh who would then crack Jimmy in the head with it, yelling “Welcome to the Orchard!” The wrestlers would continue to trade blows until Macintosh tied Havoc up in the tree of woe and stomped on his nether-regions. Macintosh would then go under the ring and would pull out chairs, a chain, rotten apples, and a box of apple juice. Macintosh would then proceed by pretending to piss on Havoc with the box of apple juice, leading to a “You sick f**k!” chant. After crotching himself on the post going for a baseball slide, Macintosh would receive the beating of a lifetime from Havoc, complete with papercuts, chair shots, and a low blow for good measure. Havoc would then dump thumbtacks on a chair but would eat repeated rights to the face and repeatedly sat on the tacks. Havoc would then pick up Macintosh and slam him onto the thumbtack-ridden chair for a two count and a “Holy shit!” chant. Macintosh would then get the upper hand with a back body drop and would tape a rotten apple into Havoc’s mouth. But before Macintosh could finish Havoc off Darius Carter would come out and distract him. Havoc would use this opportunity to wrap a chain around his fist and hit Macintosh from behind, picking up the win in the process.
