Hell’s Kitchen: Rookies VS Veterans Episode 6 Recap

It’s raining potatoes in an all-new episode of “Hell’s Kitchen: Rookies VS Veterans” where animals run wild and steaks are butchered more than they need to be.

This episode started with Ramsay saying that “there are many legends in the culinary world.” This episode they were going to meet one them. Turned out it was just Marino holding a dome that had the real legend: Mr. Potato Head. In fact, each chef had their own Mr. Potato Head that looked like them.

Basically, the point of this day’s challenge was to create a dish where the potato was the main component. The other ingredients were written on Mr. Potato Head parts that each chef had to find on the floor. Just to keep up with the humor, Marino had a bucket that only had a few pieces and the others were dropped from the ceiling. Ramsay sure likes to drop stuff from the ceiling this season.

To help judge the dishes, Ramsay called on chef and cookbook author Richard Blais. Each dish was rated on a scale of 1-5.

Because the Blue had an extra chef, they had to choose one dish to not bring up. They chose Kanae’s dish. This would bite them in the end since T’s dish, who said that her sweet potatoes were supposed to look grainy, got two ones and Kanae’s dish got two fours. On top of that, the Red won 41-40 with Chris getting the tie-breaker. The Blue’s punishment was washing, peeling and mashing potatoes for that night’s steak night.

Meanwhile, the Red spent the day at “Animal Tracks” and lunch prepared by Daniel Humm’s food truck “NoMad.”

While Chris has proven to be s strong chef, he decided to leave “Hell’s Kitchen” due to emotional reasons. It’s always a terrible feeling seeing a chef leave for reasons other than having a poor dinner service, but these things do happen.

Speaking of poor dinner service, the Blue had one this episode. While apps were flawless, everything fell apart during entrees. Kanae started off by destroying two whole branzini and then undercooked a third. Later, T and Heather kept on bringing up filet mignons that were either under or over. T even stopped communicating with Heather. Another undercooked filet mignon caused Ramsay to toss out the entire team.

The Red did much better. The only downsize were Motto couldn’t remember what the order was even after he just read the order due to Ramsay making him read the tickets. And Scotley got in trouble over a branzino that wasn’t scored properly.

The Blue nominated T and Heather with T getting eliminated.

Another by the books episode with a runner-up getting the boot. T should have done a lot better but she just stopped caring. While the Mr. Potato Head portion of the show was funny, the rest was basic “Hell’s Kitchen” fare. If you haven’t dropped the show before this episode, now’s a good time too because these remaining chefs are pretty mediocre.
