Review Fix Exclusive: Finding September’s Emily Bayardo Talks Darkest Greys And More

Review Fix chats with Finding September’s Emily Bayardo, who discusses the band’s origin, creative process, goals and standout track “Darkest Greys.”

Review Fix: How did the band get together?

Emily Bayardo: Jayden and Josh had gone to a music school way back in the day, so once they branched out and formed Finding September, it just so happened that their band and my little solo acoustic project were on the same bill. The timing was just right and they had asked me to come over and jam. The rest is just history. With Graham being relatively new, we came in contact through a flyer he posted looking around to start a band. We auditioned him and he had fit perfectly into the lineup.

Review Fix: How has your sound changed since you got together?

Bayardo: Our sound has really matured a lot since we first got together. Our sound was not always like this and has definitely changed a lot as we grew both individually and as a band. I think both personal experiences and honing in on our instruments and creativity really helped create our sound.

Review Fix: Who are some of your influences that people wouldn’t expect?

Bayardo: We have a little bit of everything to be completely honest, but at our core, we are a pop punk band with metal influences. Graham used to play in a Latin thrash funk band, Josh finds a lot of influence in bands like Avenged Sevenfold, Jayden is a complete metal head, so that’s obviously where a lot of the double bass action comes in, and I find a lot of my influence through a combo of pop punk and R&B.

Review Fix: What’s the band’s creative process like?

Bayardo: We are very collaborative when it comes to the creative process. It starts off with an idea made by one member and then gets manipulated and broken down and rebuilt until it fits. Everybody works together in order to make the best version of our ideas.

Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your sound in the studio?

Bayardo: Our live shows are an energy packed punch. We work really hard in order to emulate the same energy from the studio to the stage. We love to have a high energy show and make people excited to be there.

Review Fix: What’s your standout track? How was it written?

Bayardo: Our standout track on the EP would no doubt be Darkest Greys.  That one actually has a funny story of how it was written. A little over a week we were supposed to go into the studio we were scrambling trying to get this song together and it just was not happening. Not going to lie, the boys thought that this was going to be the one that broke us up. Flash forward to recording week on the final day a couple of hours before our producer needed to catch his plane, and the song miraculously came together perfectly. Ever since its release Darkest Greys really resonated with a lot of people and became a fan and band favorite.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Bayardo: We have a lot of exciting things coming up. We have our first out of state tour that starts in under a month! Most importantly, we have new music on the way and it for sure is some heat.

Review Fix: Anything you’d like to add?

Bayardo: Be on the lookout, we can’t wait for what the future holds.
