Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Terouz, who explains his origin in music and goals for new track “Outstanding.â€
Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?
Terouz: I started writing songs in my teens, had a successful cover band in Egypt! It was only by the age of 25 when I moved to Montreal that I decided I want to go all the way. I had no excuse to become who I wanted to become, I worthy singer/songwriter aspiring to join the ranks of his heroes: Springsteen, Cat Stevens, Annie Lenox, Editors…
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Terouz: Living bravely! Only through your human connections and relation to nature can you find truth! I write everyday, vomit sing random gibberish lyrics while I take buzzed walks in the Plateau of Montreal. I don’t go to bed without a catchy line or two.
Review Fix: What inspires you?
Terouz: Watching bravery in action…and women of course.
Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?
Terouz: Cohen on a treadmill! Hypnotic-noir Cinematic storytelling!
Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?
Terouz: I am currently working on building the live shows. Since it’s a different perception than just the audio, I am working on stretching the tracks and playfully utilizing vocal loops and ambient sounds to set the mood in real-time, to create all these vocal textures in front of the viewer, only to launch the track once they have registered with the spectator. I can’t wait to finish that and hit the stage!
Review Fix: What inspired your latest single?
Terouz: My sonic transformation transpired after the loss of my father. Life as you know it takes a darker shade when you lose a loving parent. As if a grey, film-thin veil has been dropped in front of your eye sight. Your entire existence is shaken. It was that massive emotional blow that saw me re-emerge as the hypnotic, noir TEROUZ
Review Fix: What are your goals for the rest of 2019?
Terouz: Building the live set and hitting the stages, anywhere I want! since I am not held down by backing bands anymore, I can pack a laptop and a keyboard in a car and hit the road!
Review Fix: What’s next?
Terouz: I want to tour the Middle East in 2020, go and claim a dormant popularity that can help me push things forward here in Canada and in Europe.
Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?
Terouz: Yeah, Readers should share the video! it’s a cinematic treat for film-noir lovers!
