Review Fix: How did you get involved in this project?
Nelson Dániel: I was invited from Legendary. I shouted silently, and of course I accepted! It was impossible to say no.
Review Fix: Why is Pokémon special for you?
Dániel: I have always liked Pokémon, from its beginnings. The first time I saw the series on television it seemed to me that it was a very powerful idea, with infinite possibilities. Its characters enchanted me at first sight.
Review Fix: Were you a fan before your involvement?
Dániel: I’m was not a 100% fan, but I really like it. The real fans are my kids who went crazy when they found out I was going to draw Pokémon (as well as their friends too). It was another reason to have accepted the project.
Review Fix: Who’s your favorite Pokémon? Why?
Dániel: I have several. Pikachu is the first without a doubt, and Snubbull, Bulbasaur, Snorlax also. But, I really enjoyed drawing Greninja in this book. It is an excellent design, very dynamic, docile, and by far my favorite of this project.
Review Fix: How is your story different from the film? What touches did you put on it?
Dániel: In general, it is quite faithful to the film, but I would say that the most important changes are always in the way of showing the same scene from the film to the paper. Sometimes it is necessary to change the angle of the camera to show the same scene. Sometimes it is necessary to merge several scenes in a single panel. Everything always depends on the narration. Always looking for a fluid and dynamic reading. It is the most complex, at the moment, of making a graphic novel.
Review Fix: Why should someone check it out?
Dániel: If you like Pokémon you definitely have to see it, but if not, I promise you a great read with a lot of fun, full of adventures with great characters. In short, a new point of view of this great universe.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Dániel: Several things but I cannot announce anything at the moment.
