Review Fix chats with the Docksuns’ Stephen Keogh, who discusses the band’s origin, new single and goals amid the COVID-19 era of music.
Review Fix: How did the project start?
Stephen Keogh: The band was put together at the start of 2019 by Neil Douthwaite (lead guitarist/songwriter) who responded to an Instagram story of Glenn Laws (drummer), playing the guitar. Close friend James Baxter (singer/songwriter) who had been writing music with Neil for the past 7 years also joined and brought along 2 members of our old band, Me (Guitar/Songwriter) and Adam Dawkins (Bass).
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Keogh: With our band having three songwriters, we usually collate all our ideas, either as voice clips or videos on our phones and bounce them across to each other on a daily basis. This then gets took to rehearsals and our songs slowly develop.
Review Fix: What’s your standout song? How was it written?
Keogh: It has to be our new single ‘Dancing on the Radio’. It’s an uplifting feel good summer tune. James (Singer/songwriter) just start playing it during a rehearsal session, he’ll probably have had it saved on his phone for weeks. The first time we all heard him play it we knew it was going to be a massive tune. We spend a full weekend in the studio recording it and experimenting with new ideas and sound which we think has turned out spot on!
Review Fix: What are your goals for 2020?
Keogh: Due to current situation, we aim to keep on writing and recording as much as we can. We are currently in the process of releasing some new merch.
Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?
Keogh: With everything that’s going on around the world, we’d love our music to reach out to and shine some light on people that are going through tough times. Just like Richard Ashcroft said, “Music is power†I strongly believe in the message he is trying to preach.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Keogh: Plans for the future have took a major set back due to the current global pandemic that going on, however, our plans haven’t changed. We still have dates booked in at the studio, as we’ve got a catalogue full of tunes that are ready to go. We still want to continue playing shows up and down the country, but we’d love to venture further a-field, like a tour of Europe! We have a new single as well, “Dancing on the Radio†which we are buzzing about.
