Review Fix Exclusive: Moscow Apartment’s Brighid Talks ‘Halfway’ And More

Review Fix chats with Brighid from Moscow Apartment to find out about her origin in music, goals and new single, “Halfway.”

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

Brighid: I got into music because my parents have been taking me to live shows since I was a baby. Even though my parents aren’t musicians, I grew up in a really music loving household. Pascale too. (Her parents are actually musicians)

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Brighid: Our creative process is different for each song, but it’s a very collaborative process. Usually one of us will have some sort of starting point- a verse, a guitar part or even just a few lyrics, and then from then on we work together to finish it. We will also often take two pieces of writing or music that we have each been individually working on and and put them together. Its weird but it usually works out really well!

Review Fix: What inspires you?

Brighid: I think we both are inspired by all kinds of things, but we both definitely get inspired by young people making change through art and activism. We also draw inspiration from all types of music, from folk to pop to hardcore- you name it.

Review Fix: What does music mean to you?

Brighid: Music means everything to us! Again we both grew up in very musical households so it’s just natural for us to play music. I love it because it’s this amazing combination of technical stuff and emotion which is amazing. I especially love live music because I find it really transporting.

Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?

Brighid: We’re never quite sure how to describe our music to be honest. I think this is partially because we both listen to so many genres regularly- but if I had to describe it with a few words I would definitely say shimmery, political indie pop rock.

Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?

Brighid: Something about our live shows that just can’t.come across in our recorded music is the way we interact with eachother and the audience during live shows. Pascale and I are really close friends, so we try to have as much fun as possible in our live shows -and that means a lot of talking and cracking jokes. That being said, we get to explore and experiment a lot more in recording and that often pushes us to try new things musically in our live shows.

Review Fix: What inspired your latest single?

Brighid: Our latest single Halfway is simply about our friendship. It was written a couple years ago after we got into a really bad fight, and writing it helped us make up. It can be really weird to work with your best friend. It’s often really hard, but it also means that we get to share all these amazing musical experiences with someone we really love and care about.

Review Fix: What are your goals for the rest of 2020?

Brighid: Our goals for 2020 are to start working on our second EP, keep developing as artists and people, finish high school and keep having fun.
