Review Fix Exclusive: Jeen Talks ‘Deep End’ And More

Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Jeen, who lets us know all about her process, inspirations and future.

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

Jeen: I quit school in grade 10, joined a band in Oshawa, then we moved to Toronto. It was all down hill from there.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Jeen: I have a small studio in my attic where I do all my writing and demo-ing (which sort of happens simultaneously)…I usually write in chunks, several songs in a row kind of thing, then I take a break (if I can) until the well fills up again.

Review Fix: What inspires you?

Jeen: I’ve been doing this my whole life and if I don’t write I get very low mentally..so I suppose what inspires me the most is to keep my mood stabilized lol but the pure chaos of this world inspires me the most right now.

Review Fix: What does music mean to you?

Jeen: It’s everything to me. I’ve set up my life to revolve around music, so it is my entire world really..I’ve never had a day job and like I said I didn’t even finish school because of music. It’s really all I have and all I do.

It’s my blessing and my curse.

Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?

Jeen: I haven’t really listen to much music over the past decade so I couldn’t really pick a similar band or anything…but umm..I’ve been hearing people say it sounds ‘nineties’ which sort of cracks me up but maybe that would help describe it?

God, I don’t know!

Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?

Jeen: Hard to say with 2020’s complete and utter decimation but I’m going to try change it up, try it as a 3 piece this year…it might sound like shit but if it’s doesn’t I think I’ll stick to that cause its simple and fun…so that would be a pretty big departure from this studio record with tons of tracks…but I’m really looking forward to whittling it down to a 3 piece and just making it a bit more trashy and light.

Review Fix: What inspired your latest single?

Jeen: Basically? depression and anxiety. fun times.

Review Fix: What are your goals for the rest of 2020?

Jeen: I’m in the studio right now making another mini album so I’d love to get a label on board before I’m dead.
