Review Fix Exclusive: BARBUDO’s Ben and Harry Stanworth Talk ‘Magnolia Mansion’ And More

Review Fix chats with BARBUDO’s Ben and Harry Stanworth, who let us know about their origin in music, future and creative process.

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

Ben Stanworth: We’ve made music from a young age. Our parents played instruments and played lots of music round the house when we were growing up ,which encouraged us to start ourselves.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Harry Stanworth: It varies really. Sometimes a song will just land on your lap complete, other times it takes a while to finish off. We usually work on the melody and lyrics first but sometimes we’ll just make a beat and improvise on top of it.

Review Fix: What inspires you?

Ben: Usually music that has a sense of familiarity whilst incorporating new elements that are fresh to your ear.

Review Fix: What does music mean to you?

Harry: For us, music is about expression. We make music to reflect how we feel, but sometimes this process actually evokes a different emotion within ourselves. Creating music is a strange sort of escapism in this way as it takes you away from everything else around you.

Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?

Ben: Nu-eyed funk.

Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?

Harry: We try to keep a consistency across the two but I would say our live shows have an extra energy. The dynamic between us and the crowd always bring the performace to life in a different way to the recordings.

Review Fix: What inspired your latest single?

Ben: We were inspired by lots of funk & disco. Groups like The Isley Brothers and The Brothers Johnson are always an influence.

Review Fix: What are your goals for the rest of 2020?

Harry: We’ve put a hold on gigging but we are going to keep hosting live stream shows. We’ve also got a bunch of new material we want to finish off so we can release it as soon as.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Ben: We have a new single on the way. More on this tbc….

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Harry: We’ve got some new merch we are releasing in the coming weeks. Head to our Instagram (@barbudoband) to find out more.
