Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Elodie Rêverie about her new track, “Red Carpet†and more.
Review Fix: What inspired this track?
Elodie Rêverie: When I was 10, I had the opportunity to be in a Sundance film called Pieces of April written and directed by Peter Hedges (What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, About a Boy, Dan in Real Life) starring Katie Holmes. I had a small role, but I was allowed to walk down the red carpet because Peter knew how much would it would mean to me. It meant a of a lot to me, because I’ve written about it nearly 20 years after the fact. After releasing my most recent single “Under the Radar(July 2020)I saw that 68 people were listening at once on my Spotify for Artists app and I texted my mom saying that I felt like I was walking the red carpet again.
Review Fix: How is it different from the rest of your work?
Rêverie: My voice and my lyrics are the center of attention in “Red Carpetâ€, and I’ve opted for minimalist and mesmerizing production. I co-produced it with Riley Urick. I found a stem I liked on Splice which serves as foundation for my melody. It’s slower more stripped down and the production has more of a hip-hop influence compared with my previous releases.
Review Fix: What are your goals for it?
Rêverie: I hope that it will find listeners who are mesmerized and moved by it, and I hope it will be in a TV show, but my mantra for now is, I’ll put something out and see what happens.
Review Fix: How would you like it to be remembered?
Rêverie: I’d like to be remembered as determined, brave, and sensitive, as someone with the ability to tap into the depth of my emotions, and transmit them sonically. I’d like to be remembered as a creative and thoughtful lyricist.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Rêverie: I have yet to put out a music video and I am excited to devote time to my music visuals and YouTube Presence. I’ve always been into animations. My mom’s friend Dido Nydick hand draws animations for me and I cut them together. I’ve posted one minute animated teasers on my Instagram which people seem to love, but I expect to start releasing full length animated videos and I also am shooting a music video for “Red Carpet†over halloweekend!
