IDW’s Sonic the Hedgehog; Comic Book Saga Expands with Pivotal New Imposter Syndrome Miniseries

As the wildly popular Sonic the Hedgehog comic book series approaches its milestone fiftieth issue, IDW announces today the upcoming November debut of Sonic The Hedgehog: Imposter Syndrome, a four-issue tie-in miniseries pitting the Blue Blur against a duo of doppelgangers!

Ian Flynn, the prolific and fan-favorite writer who has chronicled Sonic adventures since 2006, joins artist Thomas Rothlisberger (Sonic the Hedgehog 30th Anniversary Special) for this essential component of Sonic’s ongoing saga.

In Imposter Syndrome, a surge of lookalikes spells trouble for Sonic, Tails, and even the dreaded Dr. Eggman! Dr. Starline, the evil scientist eager to supplant Dr. Eggman as would-be world conqueror, is pulling every tool from his kit as he creates his fastest and smartest inventions.

“I’m especially excited about this story since it’s building upon the core fundamentals that led to Dr. Starline’s creation as a character. Hardcore fans will pick up on the inspirations from across Sonic‘s gaming history immediately. New fans will get to experience some wild new villains in a story that accelerates us to the monumental Sonic the Hedgehog #50. It’s a win-win for everybody!” says Flynn.

“This new project is going to be an electrifying ride, full of kinetic action and tragic revelations — not to mention more Dr. Starline, which is always a positive! I can’t wait to see how Surge and Kit spark readers’ creativity, and I’m ecstatic to be part of the team crafting their story,” says Rothlisberger.

Imposter Syndrome will be released in alternating months with the ongoing series (Sonic #46 in October, the new miniseries #1 in November, Sonic #47 in December, and so on) as they both build towards Sonic the Hedgehog #50. While they can be read separately, both series are a half of one larger story, and reading both will enhance the overall experience. Eagle-eyed readers will be able to spot the subtle moments where the two stories overlap, ultimately converging towards the climactic storyline finale.

“High octane action, amazing adventures, thrilling characterization — that’s what we do best with Sonic, and with Imposter Syndrome, we’re going to take that and turn it on its head,” says editor David Mariotte. “We’re so excited to introduce a new super-speedy character and her super-smart sidekick who may feel familiar at first but will show you just how different they are from Sonic and Tails!”

Sonic the Hedgehog: Imposter Syndrome #1 will be available with multiple cover variants for retailers and fans to enjoy, including Cover A by Mauro Fonseca, Cover B by series artist Thomas Rothlisberger, and a Retailer Incentive edition featuring art by ongoing series writer/artist Evan Stanley.
