NXT UK Power Rankings: Meiko Rules

Unfortunately this was a bit of a down week for NXT UK. I called it the after dinner mint of wrestling a few weeks ago but this was one of the mints that had been in the bowl a little longer than you’d have liked. It wasn’t a bad show and it did a lot to set up matches I’m much more excited for in the near future but this was the closest I’ve seen an NXT UK show come to feeling like Raw or SmackDown as far as not really giving us that extra punch in the ring. That said it wasn’t all bad so let’s get to this week’s rankings!

Honorable Mention: All the women of NXT UK: Jinny didn’t put on a classic with Satomura but it was solid and even got a “This is awesome” chant near the end. Blair Davenport reminded everyone that she’s a threat to the title. Isla Dawn continued her weird witchy ways despite a DQ loss for not letting go of the hair. Stevie Turner and Dani Luna had a spat. And my favorite thing from the women tonight and maybe in the time I’ve been watching was Xia Brookside revealing she’s now a spoiled rich girl when she asked Sid Scala for a title match because Meikosaid they have to take their shots. He refused citing her record and she pouted saying it wasn’t fair and then took out her phone and said “Hiiiii Daddy!” before complaining to him.

5: Moustache Mountain: After the end of last week’s match we could have seen the blow-up of this team but Seven apologized to Bate and asked for his forgiveness and Bate accepted. Seven revealed they’ve been added to the #1 Contender’s triple threat for the tag titles and it will now be a fatal four-way. Bate didn’t look as excited as Seven did for the announcement but not uninterested so it could be nothing or Seven going immediately back after tag gold could add to the eventual split. This is a fun story they’re telling.

4: Flash Morgan Webster: I’m really enjoying the story we’re getting from Webster and kudos to them for catching me up with a clip before the match because apparently before I started watching and reviewing this show on a weekly basis Webster picked a fight with Wolfgang, then he picked one with Samuels and now Brown. He’s trying to show his teammates in Sub Culture and the rest of us that he’s on that top level but he keeps taking beatings and coming up just short. This feels like the perfect build to him being the 1-2-3 Kid to WALTER’s Razor Ramon. I’d put that on a TakeOver.

3: A-Kid: He wasn’t directly on the show but we saw Sam Gradwell watching a video package that featured A-Kid making a wide variety of appearances across various Spanish language media programs and it made A-Kid look like the big deal his matches have shown he should be.

2: Rampage Brown: He lived up to his name tonight. He tore through Flash Morgan Webster to open the night. Webster had a flurry at one point that sent Rampage out of the ring and had him reeling but ultimately this match was about Rampage just being the bigger, stronger, meaner wrestler of the two when he won after a lariat that turned Webster inside out and then a Dr. Bomb that he started while Webster was seated. Despite giving Webster a nod of approval after their contest he showed much less respect to the UK Champion later in the show. Brown interrupted a promo by Dragunov to challenge him for the title and after Dragunov agreed Rampage drilled the champ with a lariat before grabbing the mic and saying “I don’t need your respect son. I just need your title.” and standing over Dragunov with the belt held high.

1. Meiko Satomura: In her third title defense Satomura handed “The Fashionista” Jinny yet another loss in a title match. Despite having her leg worked over most of the match and eating a Makeover and ripcord kappou kick “The Final Boss” would not be defeated tonight getting the win with a Scorpio Rising followed by a Death Valley Driver for the 3. Jinny proved a worthy opponent but Blair Davenport made sure both women knew before their match that she was coming for the winner and that feels line the real threat looming for Satomura. I’m hoping we can get a UK TakeOver in the near future because we now have a solid three or four matches that have been hinted at that feel deserving of that stage.
