About Devin Kowl:

D.C. native Devin Kowl grew up under the influence of chart-topping R&B, blues, and jazz — allowing him to craft a soulful musical experience that seeps into every aspect of his songwriting and production. A 4th generation entrepreneur running his family’s company, Kowl moved to Los Angeles to pursue music, he began performing for corporate and private events throughout the city. He’s been featured at the MTV Emerging Lounge, and Scion’s Got Talent event, among many others. Recently, he put all his time and attention into writing and producing his own music, a deeply soulful R&B style and true-to-life lyrics that get to the heart of who we are as humans.

Review Fix: The first time I heard Missing U, I felt like I was watching an episode of Dawson’s Creek. It’s got a ton of ambiance and old school vibes. How did you write it?

Devin Kowl: Missing you started out as a song that was about missing the love of your life and then the meaning of it transformed into me missing myself. Given the relationship break up I was going through at the time and the pandemic that was happening. I found myself looking in the mirror and missing myself. I didn’t the know the person looking back at me which for me was different. So it became A love letter to myself in a sense and trying to give myself hope but at the same time being transparent and sharing it all with myself. part of healing is being be able to accept where you are in your own process that’s what the song is about! So it’s so much bigger than just missing someone it has so many meanings for slot of people, we are coming up

On two years of being in a pandemic…. people are missing their confidence, peace of mind & etc……..  So in witting it it took on so many meanings the more and more I got into it. I just kept writing  how I was feeling!

Review Fix: How did the song change throughout the process?

Kowl: I think I answered that in part one! Lol!! When you write a record and then listen back to it the meaning of the record is forever changing b/c you yourself as a person is always changing & growing! So the meaning changes for you!

Review Fix: What lines are you most proud of?

Kowl: All of them! I know that’s kind of broad to say but I’m proud of them all b/c they all mean something very specific for me!

Review Fix: What does music do for you that other things can’t?

Kowl: Ahhhh music has a way of sparking emotions sometimes that other things can’t. Music is one of those things that has the ability to make sad but at the same time with the eight song can give you a lot of hope. So for me I guess the biggest thing it does is allows me a safe space to be creative.

Review Fix: What singers do you look up to the most?

Kowl: There’s so many that I love but interns if voices, I love Bobby Caldwell, I’ve become a big fan of Sting! I go through phases of listening to certain artist and right now I’m kinda stuck on those two!

Review Fix: What are your ultimate goals for this track?

Kowl: For this track my ultimate goal is for people to understand the meaning, missing you is so much bigger than Just a normal sad love song. I want people to think about whatever they are missing get the message of hope that’s in this record and be inspired. Also I want to get 10,000 streams in the first week!

Review Fix: What’s next?

Kowl: Next, I have more new music coming and I also have the music video for this song coming out!
