The Wrong Earth: Trapped on Teen Planet Review: Insane

It seems like anything can happen in superhero comics, no matter how strange and out there it is. “The Wrong Earth: Trapped on Teen Planet” by Gail Simone with artists Walter Geovani (pages 1-9,) Rob Leon (pages 1-9) and Bill Morrison (pages 10-22) is the latest to come up with an idea that’s about as insane as it gets.

Dragonfly, the villain from Earth-Omega, now living in Earth-Alpha as hero Dragonflyman, along with sidekicks Stinger and Deuce get thrown into a mirror that’s a portal to other dimensions by a robot and find themselves in a world that’s a parody of “Archie.”    That is one of the most ridiculous plotlines in the history of ridiculous plotlines. Serious superheroes going into a world where the worst thing that can happen is the local high school team loses the big game is a recipe for disaster.

Luckily, Simone did her homework on “Archie” and is obviously a fan so she got a lot right. That’s the funny part: a fan writing a story based on one of their favorite comics and going wild with it is sight to see.

She even does the smart thing and keep it campy and “safe” where the most violent thing is a character getting punched by the jock character. It’s not enough to poke fun at Archie, but you have to make sure you get the art right. Morrison gets that right.

Reading this comic you can swear that this was published by ‘Archie Comics” themselves. As for the art before the jump, it’s fine. It looks like your typical gritty superhero comic. The character designs look amazing, though. “The Wrong Earth: Trapped on Teen Planet” is that type of comic that would be a joy for “Archie” fans but for fans of “The Wrong Earth” probably not so much. The comic becomes a lot more enjoyable when it takes place in the faux “Archie” world than in the “Wrong Earth” world.
