Red Bird Rising – My Revolution Single Review: One For The History Books

Art is powerful. It can inspire the hearts and minds of those who might be lucky enough to experience it and understand its message. Red Bird Rising understands this, as their latest single “My Revolution” is a track that seeks to inspire the people of the Ukraine, as they are currently at war with Russia as of this writing with no clear end to the conflict in sight. The track seeks to achieve this from the start, as the track opens to the roars of a cheering crowd.

The high energy of the crowd brings a lively aesthetic to track right off the bat, which is an engaging juxtaposition when the mellow vocals come in. The bassline that creeps in alongside some smooth drums sets them up well behind the roars of the crowd and when the noise dies down, the aesthetic of the track comes into full vision. The pulse of the track is easy to follow and even grooves when the bass steals the spotlight from under the rest of the instrumentals but has a somber undertone. The airy guitars are rhythmic and serve as a great way to underscore the passion and emotion of the lyrics.

This somber and passionate atmosphere isn’t unearned. With production and vocals being done as a collaborative remote effort with a lead vocalist from the Ukraine. Lines from “My Revolution” such as “there are days I dream of leaving for good. Passport be damned, take all I can, get out now like I should” and “can’t lose my mind, checking the headlines. Play my piano instead” are indicative of the Ukrainian vocalist Taras Kuznetzovs’ anguish and fear. Other lines, such as “good good, they haven’t yet bombed my home. But I can not go out, so I rule my own house. Work like a bee in honeycomb” are powerful examples of the tenacity of the singer, and a stalwart bravery that comes from a desire to help his people in any way he can.

“My Revolution” is a powerful track. The song itself is a somber rock anthem for the people of the Ukraine in their hour of need. The instrumentals are tight and convey a somber, yet inspiring atmosphere that does a good job of conveying the atmosphere of fighting adversity in the best way you are able to, even under odds that seem impossible to overcome. This aesthetic is properly rooted into the core of the production of the track, as vocalist Taras Kuznetzov’s personally worked with songwriter Diedrich Donald Weiss to make sure the lyrics reflected an authentic look into his current experiences. For the music lover, “My Revolution” is a track that is born from the necessity of this moment on time and is not one to be missed.
